Well I'm going public - meaning I've been posting journals for myself, but I've kept it private. Maybe I questioned whether I can do this? Well I know I can. So I think I was just giving myself a backdoor to quietly step out of it it got rough. No more back door - kinda scary for me. I've been eating "somewhat healthy" for a few months, but started Keto with a fast at the end of April and started with FS at that point. I'm playing to win. Hi everyone:)

Question about breaking fast: So I broke my 4 day fast today at 3:30 - It was only my second fast so not a ton of experience. Over about 30 min I broke the fast with 25g sauerkraut for probiotics, 15g macadamias for fat, 1c broth for the love of it, 40g pork shred for protein, 25g green beans to add some veg. Felt fine 1 hr later and had 22g blackberries for the yum of it. Total 20.11 fat, 7.11 carb, 12.31 protein = 243 cal. Any suggestions to improve how I break a fast?

6/30/18 Saturday wt 194.0, fat scale 47.7 on day 3 of fast started 6/27 at 8pm.

Fast is going OK. Still have pain in knee but not crushing and no waves - just a general sharp pain when walking and 50% of time when just moving leg. Monthy pain ramping up since not taking any pain meds during fast. Hope it will be tolerable or I may break fast to take pain meds - not really sure fasting is good idea during this time of month anyway - concerned about iron loss and haven't researched it yet.

Turned in at about 10 last night but couldn't get to sleep. Once did, woke several times so sleep was very interrupted. A bit groggy and heavy headed this am, but took a walk into kitchen and put away some clean dishes.

Not hungry this am, but half the time I'm not hungry in am regardless of fast.

Took serrapeptase 40,000 at 7am. Hope it isn't kicking me out of autophagy - wondering what the mechanism for halting autophagy is.

Feeling optimistic.

Watched a great video last night - really making me think! Only saw first half of The Pleasure Trap video with Douglas Lisle, Ph.D - the first half (not sure of 2nd half) has nothing directly about eating or food and is all about happiness and pleasure and how we are wired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxf4kj8Rb6Y - and it was enjoyable to watch and has really simple and clear explanations and examples. It has me thinking about happiness and pleasure in a new way.

Didn't consider that happiness and pleasure are separate mechanisms. Sure the goals make me happy – the goals are pleasurable. But the journey to worthy goals is where the happiness/unhappiness guide system takes place. The moods of happiness and unhappiness are the guides that keep me going towards the pleasurable goals. So when something takes me closer to my goal, it makes me happy and lets me know I’m on the right path and to keep going. When something takes me further from my goals, it makes me unhappy and that lets me know I’m on the wrong path and I need a course correction to reach my goals. Being unhappy and not being on the right path is NOT something to be upset or angry about! It’s a guidance system to put me back on track! I love that! I give up being upset when something isn’t working and take on being thoughtful and accepting that there is simply something to shift to put me on the right path.

6/29/18 started fast 6/27/18 around 8pm. So it's 2 days 9 hrs into 2nd fast and things are a little different. First fast it was about 1/2 way into 4th day that the pain in shoulders and neck got really bad and by that evening the pain was unbearable (meaning almost in tears and I would love to have knocked myself out somehow to escape the pain) so I gently broke my fast. Pain gone pretty quick after. This time no pain there, but excruciating pain in right knee where I have bursitis and have had other unidentified odd problems. Right elbow more sore than I think it should be - expected pain in left not right elbow - have tendonitis in both. Shoulder bursitis no more uncomfortable than usual and no more/less range of motion. But wow that knee - feels like it is being crushed to pieces under a boulder. Comes in waves of about 5 minutes max. Was every hour or so starting at 3am then put heat and infrared therapy on it at 6am and the waves were shorter and every 5 minutes for a bit then gone - no pain. Still hard to walk at first, then almost no problem. So of course I did some stuff around the house and walked too much. A few hours after stopping therapy the crushing pain is back but not as severe. Still hurts like a bugger but I can handle it at this level. Glad the heat and infrared therapy is helping again right now.

I really hope this is all the body's way of gathering up the cellular material that isn't right and disposing of it. I love thinking that the pain in my neck/shoulders last time was body ridding itself of damages to that area and that it was one heck of a fight and I won. And I love thinking of my knee the same way. That autophagy and other processes are ridding my knee of damaged tissue and bits of me that are not functioning properly and breaking that all down into it's components so they can be reused effectively and in some way healing me.

Side note on fast: I am hungry! Like non stop. Drinking water even makes me hungry! Oh well. So I'm hungry. Life goes on. I can handle this.

Drinking water and herbal tea. Munching on some PH salt crystals here and there. That's it. Looking forward to taking a total of 75 lbs off to lighten load on my knees and feet, gaining some muscle, and being able to walk the dog and hike some trails. I miss that stuff!!

7pm took 1st dose serrapeptase 40000 took 2nd dose 9:30 pm.

6/27/18: Started second fast after dinner 6/27. Shooting for 4 days again. Will start food gently again on Sun 7/1 evening. Broth and an egg, then pate and macadamias, then beef or chicken or fish with spinach/chard/kale and some cheese. Research is difficult to pin down, but might be that glycogen stores are used up in 1 day, sedentary so may take longer. Then healing state begins after 2 days. Want to give body some time to work it's mojo and make a difference with my knee. Going barefoot mostly for 2 days prior to fast and during fast - thinking maybe shoes are contributing to bursitis knee as less pain without shoes. Not a long term solution!! But bursitis did come on suddenly with an ill-planned bout of exercise one night. So maybe once healed, shoes will be OK. Plan is: Once not in pain for 4 days straight and doing stretches, will add strengthening exercises for quads, hams and adductors. Will also restart light stretches for elbows and shoulders and hands. Fasting makes me feel optimistic - I really do think there is something to the studies showing it it can alter depression. Makes sense to me given that I think the non bio-chemically induced form of depression is basically a lack of hope and possibility to leads to bio-chem being off and being depressed.

6/28/18: Fat scan 46.5. Drinking water and munched a few Himalayan pink salt crystals. Weight down 2 lbs from water loss I guess? Was energetic at end of 1st day of fast - did too much on my bad knee, but seems OK this am. Was pretty hungry last night and woke up a few times due to energy I think. Am very hungry and plenty mentally alert this am - tummy growling and feels bunched up. Will drink some tea, do some stretching. Makes me smile to think about taking care of myself:) Did notice last night sitting in bed that heart had fluttered one maybe two times. Will keep an eye on that. I recall it happened, minimally, on my first fast as well.
