Strawberry Day, all day 🍓🍓🍓. Exercise to include a short hike in the canyons and resistance bands.

My 48 hour Leek Broth Fast (of basically zero calories, so a true fast) has ended, and I just polished off a 1 pound container of fresh strawberries. It's not really a full pound, as I had to shave off soft spots and the stems. Was curious about the weight, so pulled out the kitchen scale, only to discover the batteries were dead and of course I don't have any AAAs lying around. Matters not. I hate calorie counting and tracking, so there will be none of that. Was just happy to end the stomach growls. Have 3 more containers of berries in the fridge waiting to be devoured.

I'm on a 10 day phase of a raw fruit cleanse, where each day is a different fruit. Tomorrow is Kiwi Day, Saturday is Mango Day, Sunday is Just Bananas 😁🍌🍌.

Goal is to lower Total Cholesterol from 216 down to 190 in 3 months.

When I was grocery shopping a few days ago, I gave serious consideration to the exotic, hot pink Dragon Fruit (tastes like a cross between kiwi & pear), but it cost nearly $10/lb. and I would need to buy about 6 of them for the day since they're only a little bigger than my fist. Just gorgeous fruit -- could take the place of flowers in a centerpiece.

Day 2 of Fast. Hungry. The only thing I'm ingesting for 48 hours is black coffee, unsweetened hot tea, water, and Leek Broth. The broth is made by boiling the dark green leaves of 8 leeks in a big soup pot with water for 30 minutes, then discarding the leeks. Drink the broth in a mug for 2 days at room temperature or hot.

Yesterday I did 3 miles of walking at lunchtime and a 15 minute resistance band workout. Nice 'n easy. Today is more walking plus yoga. (I've only just recovered from sciatica that hit 4 weeks ago, so getting back into the swing of things is a careful process.) It helps to stay busy to ignore my growling stomach.

Working from home with hunger pangs when the fridge is crammed with fresh fruit is an exercise of willpower. I even put my bulging fruit bowl on a shelf in the pantry to hide it. Will pull it out tomorrow morning when the fast is over.

Tomorrow is my Strawberry Day, all day 🍓🍓🍓. I have 4 pounds of it ready to go! (This is all that I'll be eating tomorrow, and while 4 one-pound containers may seem like a lot to graze on all day, it's actually only 600 calories, with 36 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein. If I'm still hungry, I'll go buy more.)

After a particularly fun weekend with out-of-town friends, I am planning a 3-month Detox. Today is hangover recovery (hot tea and broth, lots of water). I do not bounce back as easily as I did in my 20's ☹️.

Starting tomorrow, doing 2 days of just Leek soup/broth. Then 1 week of raw fruit only, with 1 type of fruit each day, all day (mangoes, pineapple, watermelon, bananas, papaya, strawberries, blueberries).

Week 2 through 3 months will be fruit for breakfast & lunch, and salad for dinner. I make all my own dressings (thank you, Jamie Oliver!), and protein for salads is usually beans (from dried red, black, garbanzo, pinto and white), edamame, lentils, almonds, sunflower seeds or walnuts. A gazillion combinations with a gazillion different veggies. No cheese (will use nutritional yeast instead) for 3 months, as I'm trying to keep it vegan rather than vegetarian.

I plan on doing bloodwork at the doc's at the end of the Detox, because my cholesterol levels refuse to drop below 216. Suspect that cheese 2-3 days/week, along with decreased exercise is the problem. I'm hoping the switch to 85% raw foods plus (much) more exercise can net me a score of 190 if I really push myself. Otherwise, my health is great.

A bit of weirdness in the past month has motivated me to journal. First, my hair has grown out and I finally feel comfortable about going out in public without a hat.

For those that remember, about a year ago I chopped off my locks as punishment for not hitting a weight goal. Lesson learned: that was too extreme of a punishment, and my self-esteem took a beating for it.

Now that it's grown out and healthy, I feel happier and was "rewarded" with a NSV 2 weeks ago: a guy about 20 years younger than me asked me out (and I just turned 51 on Wednesday!). I didn't accept, but it was a much needed boost to my self-esteem.
Losing weight and growing my hair back has made such a difference in my attitude. So for grins & giggles, below is the Punishment Cut (May 2021) and the Grown Out Hair of today.

Cheers to men for not giving a crap about a lady's real age!

Been off the grid since June, but the break was well-spent overhauling a part of my life.

Once I hit the goal of fitting back into my old navy blue interview dress (at 127 lbs.), I took it for a test drive. Updated my resume, and out of nowhere my old recruiter/faerie godmother 💜 called. The next day I sat for a Zoom panel interview in my navy dress and fuzzy bedroom slippers (YES, I did). An hour after the meeting, they offered me the job -- and 35% 💰 more than I was making at my previous firm!

So to reward myself for the Huuuuge Non Scale Victory, I bought several holiday candles and stashed them in a kitchen cupboard, so now there is less space to store holiday junk food. (Gotta have a concrete plan through the fall & winter.)

I'm now in the office 2 days/week (WFH 3 days), with my new co-workers only knowing me as Healthy-Weight Bananas. The challenge, now that I've given myself a second chance and clean slate, is to manage the employee breakroom pitfalls of shared holiday food. That's how I packed on 60 lbs. at my last job.

So this time around, I'm using the building's gym on my lunch break on the days that I'm in the office. I'm also not bringing any food in, and only eating fruit for breakfast at home and a small dinner. Previously I had been grazing all day at my desk; that WON'T be happening this time around. I look back on those gluttonous days, and just SMH; I wasn't even hungry when I ate! 😒
