OK, Today is the 1st true weigh-in since I started monitoring my diet a little closer... and when I say diet I mean what I eat on a daily basis. The 240lbs was a know number. A number I used for my baseline, however, I'm not sure how accurate it was on the day I joined Fat Secret. Regardless, its a good starting point.

I know currently I eat way too many carbs. I like many others have been brainwashed by the powers that be... 1st, the Food Pyramid... later by those that say to eat 6 small meals (although I never could manage that one) and finally by the new govt approved "My Plate". Hell, I even attended a class or two, to better understand the "new" system...

As my stepson Knuckles pointed out though, and granted hes no dietician (but he knows his shit), the My Plate system doesn't make much sense... 1/4 protein, 1/4 starch, and 1/2 veggies on a 9 inch dinner plate. Which when broken down equates to a good amount of carbs, and a small amount of proteins and fats.

I do believe insulin is the cause of my weight gain... I've always been border-line diabetic... I love my pastas, breads, pizza, potatoes (baked or mashed)... but never realized I have such a carb heavy diet. I need to greatly reduce my carbs, and revamp my shopping to accommodate a better healthier diet. The transition should take a month or two (mainly to empty & restock the pantry)but its doable.

So very true! I have had to 'un-teach' myself the old dietary rules. I also had to learn what actually amounts to a serving, which is far less than I thought. Then I have had to re-train my taste buds to appreciate the natural flavors of wholesome foods without added sugar. It is awesome that your stepson is with you on this!

I ate pasta EVERY night for 30 plus years in a row. Every night.And in the day, for lunch I would have chicken and brocolli with rice - also for 30 plus years. But always spaghetti for dinner no matter what - even through all the fancy food events I attended - at night, I would boil up the pasta...And we're talking half a box just for me. On FS for 2 months now and the pasta has stopped - fully. The carb addiction is the great to most humans - but the most critical one to rid ourselves of. I've long since stopped sodas, and if I do have juices I water them down a lot.

Welcome, Rodney! Knuckles is a great inspiration here, too. He does know his stuff! I hope that when you empty out the pantry of the carb-heavy stuff, you don't mean you're emptying it into YOU! :D The good news is that once you get to be keto adapted, those bread/potato/pizza craving will go away. It took about 3 weeks for me, but now I can take or leave them. And it's always leave them! Happy Father's Day!

I'm glad to see someone actually acknowledge that it is going to take some time to change what's in their pantry! Often someone will say "throw it away" and, while that may be valid from a diet point of view, it's not always reasonable for the pocketbook! I think you can carefully use up most of what you have on hand and replace it with the "good" stuff. Yes, it may take a few weeks, or even a couple of months, but I don't think that's unreasonable.

Glad you've joined, and Happy Fathers Day! Knuckles definitely knows his stuff, he's been a great inspiration. I appreciate the approach you're taking, it's a deliberate thing, this targeting of problem foods, you've got a great mindset from the outset, no doubt you'll hit your targets in no time!

This is a great way to celebrate Father's Day, by joining your step-son in a health quest. He is indeed an inspiration here. We all admire his perseverance and success!

it will be hard to reduce carbs at first and you will feel like u NEED bread or bagels or pasta and rice. but just stay strong for 3 days and the cravings will GO AWAY.

from what I understand, every 15 calories of sugar equals 1 carb. I could be wrong, but I'm thinking if you are watching carbs only and limit yourself to 10 carbs per day and you eat something with 45 calories of sugar, you've spent 3 of your 10 carbs for the day and only have 7 to go (7x15=105 more calories of sugar and you're done.)
