Making progress... I'm a chocolaholic, and a carb addict, and so far its not been too hard avoiding items or minimizing my intake. I know it(my carb intake) is still high by comparison, but its much lower than it use to be. Things I eliminated: Pepsi, Home-made Southern Sweet Tea, and Cool-aid instant Pink Lemonade (with real sugar). Things I reduced: bread, pastas, pizza, Mexican food... Its been too soon since I've joined FS to document, but I know how much I use to eat of said items.

I'd like to say I eliminated chocolate, that wont happen... but since I've been tracking what I eat I've not had candy. Albeit, I did have an Olvatine drink the other day. Yes, its loaded with sugars, as is my cappuccino (don't expect me to give up that treat). At least Ovaltine, unlike Pepsi & southern sweet tea, is also packed with vitamins and minerals the body needs so I don't feel too bad about the slight deviation.

I think its ironic how sugar (and MSG) must be added to a lot of processed food to make it taste good... read the label. I imagine Ovaltine would probably taste like you've just chewed a multi-vitamin without the sugar and malt flavoring.

Side Note: I realize initially the first few lbs may shed fast, some of this may be water weight... My understanding if you drink more your body stores less... but being in a k deficit daily most definitely helps.

OK, Today is the 1st true weigh-in since I started monitoring my diet a little closer... and when I say diet I mean what I eat on a daily basis. The 240lbs was a know number. A number I used for my baseline, however, I'm not sure how accurate it was on the day I joined Fat Secret. Regardless, its a good starting point.

I know currently I eat way too many carbs. I like many others have been brainwashed by the powers that be... 1st, the Food Pyramid... later by those that say to eat 6 small meals (although I never could manage that one) and finally by the new govt approved "My Plate". Hell, I even attended a class or two, to better understand the "new" system...

As my stepson Knuckles pointed out though, and granted hes no dietician (but he knows his shit), the My Plate system doesn't make much sense... 1/4 protein, 1/4 starch, and 1/2 veggies on a 9 inch dinner plate. Which when broken down equates to a good amount of carbs, and a small amount of proteins and fats.

I do believe insulin is the cause of my weight gain... I've always been border-line diabetic... I love my pastas, breads, pizza, potatoes (baked or mashed)... but never realized I have such a carb heavy diet. I need to greatly reduce my carbs, and revamp my shopping to accommodate a better healthier diet. The transition should take a month or two (mainly to empty & restock the pantry)but its doable.
