As I near the end of my second week I have calculated that last week I was -8632 (short of RDI) calories over the week and as I said (after correcting my stupid error) I lost 10lb.
I know that most of the first week is shedding water with some, all be it a small proportion, being fat.
My trousers are telling me that my stomach is shrinking and this is supported by my waist belt which has demanded to be taken in a hole.
The thing I am facing now is the temptation to jump on the bathroom scales as I used to do every day prior to me having this medical issue but I promised myself I will only weigh in once per week so temptation back off you aint gonna win.
At the start of this session I took body measurements recording them on my spreadsheet along with the start weight. I intend taking body measurements every four weeks keeping records of the results.
I have to say that I have the one thing we are all in need of and that is support. I have total support and encouragement from my lovely lady wife who takes the time and trouble to weigh everything so I can use FS to calculate the calories, once she has the figures she then sets the menu and it is recorded on my spreadsheet.
I also value the support I see here on FS which comes in two forms. Firstly the direct support in the form of comments on my journal this is tremendous value to me and I thank you all for it.
The other support is reading the journals of other members thereby gaining knowledge and ideas along with warnings of pitfalls all helping me on my journey to my final target weight.

Losing weight is a battle of wills (in my opinion).
I believe it is not only a battle between you and your will power but so often a battle against other people who portray themselves as experts.
I set my RDI and decided to half it for the first month just to get my body moving the fat built up in hospital.
I was advised by a medical professional “don’t overdo it”. The strange thing is who and how do they define “overdoing it”.
On discharge from hospital following the cancer problem the professional advised me that if I start losing weight I must see my doctor immediately. OK says me but I do intend ditching some weight by diet and exercise.
That’s different says the professional I am talking about losing weight for no reason.
OK says I, how will I know which weight is intentional and which part is not.
Strange no answer received.
So home and back in the weight tracking mode ditching 10 lb in the first week (yes I know it is water) now on second week. If anybody can advise me which part of the 10 lb is deliberate and which is not I would appreciate it.
Now the other battle starts, this is the friends battle who tell me I am “overdoing” it and will regret it. Following this is the “you are a fanatic” thing or even the “learn moderation” remark all so helpful and encouraging don’t you think.
I cannot believe how many different diet plans I am offered all which work for the person offering it to me. The strange part is they are all in size 18 or 20 dresses or wearing XXXL trousers !!!!
I have extraordinary will power, this is a blessing I know, coupled with this is a strong ambitious will to win so as long as I can keep my mouth shut when all the above advice is given then I should retain friends and be thinner for it but one thing is for sure………..

I am a 76 year young wrinklie with a weight problem just like you.
Two years ago I came on Fatsecret and managed to lose it all achieving my goal in record speed shedding 18 inches off my waistline and 7.5 stone off my weight.
I was reporting a loss every day never missed a day the weight just fell off me.
At this time I was completing 90 minutes a day in three thirty minute sessions on my treadmill and eating no more than 1000 calories a day.
Everyone on Fatsecret thought, as I did, that I was doing really well and congratulations rolled in.
One day I had to go for an appointment in the hospital as a routine follow up of a major surgery the year before, this was routine and the surgery was in my tummy.
This involved a CT scan which, to my horror showed I had lung cancer and never knew a thing about it. Within a week the right lung was removed and I have spent the past year recovering.
This has resulted in me over eating putting weight back on but it was a case of comfort eating and I most definitely needed some comforting.
Now I am back in full swing and ready for action so the waist line battle starts again and believe me….
I WILL WIN !!
