Today was a harder day. I went out with my best buddies today and had to make good healthy choices or try to. Try to being the keywords there while I was out all day not being able to cook for myself.

I have a confession - I hate most vegetables and fruit. How brutal is that. Here I am trying to become healthier and I hate 2 huge food groups, lol. Growing up we didn't have much money so I grew up on Kraft Dinner (mac and cheese to anyone not Canadian) and peanut butter sandwiches and those were never in my diet. I dont think I ate a proper salad until i was like 18. My parents don't have the greatest eating habits either and passed them on. I mainly for vegetables eat corn, potatoes and turnip and for fruit will rarely eat an apple or raspberries.

I've talked to a nutritionist who explained the importance of vegetables at least to me and I was like yeah... I'm just going to keep it real with you. I'll try anything once but am I going to eat these on a regular basis - nope. I'm not going to lie about it it's pointless. He recommended a super greens powder formula I can mix in water to absorb as much of the benefits of vegetables as I can twice a day and I got out of the habit of using it after I got very sick about a year and a half ago now.

I decided to start taking it again today mixed with protein powder since I know I also don't get enough protein when I'm busy working or when I'm running around all weekend. I remember I used to feel better after taking it for about a week so I'm hoping in about a week I'll start to feel even better.

One of my friends noticed I lost weight today so that was exciting. I still don't own a scale (that's Monday's task) so I don't know jow much I've lost but I can feel it in my clothes so that made me have a better day. I also compared pics of me today to pics of me almost a year ago when I was at my heaviest and I can see definite changes in the shape and size of my face so I'm running with all that positivity.

I haven't gone over my daily calorie limit since I started on here 3 days ago tracking everything even though I was eating out all day today so I'm proud of myself.

Sometimes and I'm probably not alone in this I look in the mirror and see how I look and how far I have to go and it's difficult not to get frustrated and get discouraged so I keep trying to remind myself of positives and steps I'm making in the right direction.

Joining here has definitely changed my life so far even though it's only been a few days I'll say that much. I find so much encouragement in others and knowing I'll force to write down every single thing I eat and drink has held me to a new standard.

My body is going a little crazy with all the changes though and I don't really know why. Suddenly I'm suffering from terrible migraines and my body is literally aching. I can tell my hormones has amped up in the last few days too. I don't know if anyone else's body almost turned against them in the beginning when they drastically changed their diet or if it's just me. I figure it'll end in a few days once my body and brain adjusts to it but in the meantime these migraines are hell.

Nonetheless I want to end this on a happy note. I'm glad I've stuck it out and I'm continuing on. Tomorrow is another day. I also got my wedding dress yesterday and it's gorgeous and a bit big so I have lost in the last 3 weeks since I ordered it. Woo.

I think a well-buttered vegetable can be very tasty. I grew up with the canned vegetables and anything cooked from fresh had to be cooked until it was slightly grey like they do back in the ancestral country of Ireland. I didn't realize you could eat broccoli that tasted good if you ate it while it was still green until I was in college and my Italian roommate made her mother's garlic parmesan broccoli recipe for us. So, you might find some good recipes that will change your mind! Good luck with the migraines - I think changing one's diet will upset the intestinal flora that affect migraine response (totally my theory based on personal experience) so maybe make sure you are getting the probiotics that you need for your new food groups. Lately I have tried those premixed salad kits and they are really good. No thinking about it either just mix and serve. Please remember that we all have a long way to go, and the goal here is to make the time we are on this journey (being alive and well!) last a really, really, really long time! Hope you feel better soon!

Yes it took me forever to decide to lose weight cause I thought I had to eat salads, I understand you my mom only cooked with oil n rice beans n tortillas was in the menu everyday 😳

The best thing is that u don’t have to eat healthy to lose weight, however in order to be healthy u do have to eat healthy/have a balance diet

Cool to hear you are seeing progress where it counts, in how things fit. And getting that recognition from people around you is a great boots because they see changes we don't necessarily see or acknowledge the progress we have made. I feel this is because we focus so much on the goal (and yes that goal often see sooo very far away most times) that we fail to look back and see how far we have come. Keep at it and be proud of yourself for what you have done!

You need one of those cookbooks that tell you how to "hide" the vegetables in other foods to get kids to eat them. Hope you feel better soon.

I never thought about that at all but I will pick up some up along with magnesium. I know if you're missing that you'll get major migraines. I gotta just buy a big jug of V8 too and chug that as well lol. Thats a good idea too finding a cookbook to hide vegetables from kids. That's pretty much me just a giant kid anyways. I'll try the library and see what I can find. We have a pretty extensive one here. I also want go sit down today and look over some recipes. I just haven't had time yet and write a few down and try them this week. The pictures people post look delicious. I don't know if anyone else finds this but there's just not enough hours in the day.

Seriously, V8 is wonderful. It comes in low sodium and has 33% of a day's potassium. Best wishes, you will be beautiful bride!

I hate fruit, too. I just can't stand it, anything in the melon family in particular. The rest of it is just kind of, meh, take it or leave it, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. I'm ok with most vegetables, if you cook them right they can be spectacular.

Sounds like you are making good choices and will make your goal with time. You just put bad days behind you and keep moving forward toward your goal.

Veggies by themselves are pretty tasteless! And if u makem taste good by southern standards (Fl) ur in deep doodoo health wise. But u gotta have them! I use recipe websites and there may be 9000 recipes but u can only eat 3 that are quick to make and good for you. Couple that with the fat secret food items and do the math for your portions and you’ll do good. Oh, I’ve had 2 open heart surgeries, 2 carotid surgeries, was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes when I was 40. I am 65 now. I ride a bike 20 minutes a day and do construction work. Hands on. You can do it!

I hated most vegetables, too, until I trained myself to like them. I started with one kind each week and I ate them first at mealtime. My body began to recognize them as satisfying hunger, and now I crave them if I don't eat them often enough. Took about a year.

Thanks Bill and Lisa. I'm going to try looking ip a few recipes and write them down and try them this week. I'll write a journal how it goes. I think I'll start with broccoli. Hopefully I'll get to a point where I crave them as well :)

I agree with the suggestion of a book of ideas on hiding veggies from kids. I did not like many veggies as a kid but love them as an adult. Start with pizza, which has tomato sauce. I have a weakness for mac and cheese from the blue box. I occasionally make a box of whole grain using less butter. I add in about 3 cups of cooked cauliflower. It works for me!

Just adding to what has been said. As an ADULT, this might be a good time to put aside the habits and learned preferences of your childhood and begin to retry some fruits and vegetable that you know would be a healthy addition to your food plan for life. Plus, if you are getting married and children are in your future, you would not want to pass those food prejudices on to them. It’s all about being creative w the taste of your food. Roasting any vegetable brings out its natural sweetness. Adding cooked carrots and cabbage to mashed potatoes, not only lightens the calories and carbs but turns them orange which everyone loves, and increases their nutritive value.

I killed it on Easter! This is the south and soul food reigns! All my kids and grands came piling in with homemade Mac and cheese (three cheese) mashed potatoes n butter, sugar cured ham with a honey based sauce and Kong’s Hawaiian dinner rolls and Patti LaBelle peach cobbler. A freakin mine field for me. I took fresh broccoli cut into flouretts drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with adobo. They ate all of it before I got any! What the hey!!!

I roasted the broccoli in the over on 425 till done, about 15 min.
