when you have a child and they are grown, and for one reason or another, they refuse to speak to you, how do you tell them that something they are doing is inspiring you without irritating the lack-of-communication wall that they insist stays in place. My daughter is 23 and absolutely wants nothing to do with anyone in the family, but she as an individual is doing very well for herself, she is in wonderful shape fitness wise and how she is getting in shape has inspired me., not so much as the being a female Knight and literally fighting with swords, but the training she is putting herself through and the eating habits she is adapting to. How do I tell her without telling her? I have always been heavy but the things she is doing are so awesome to see. Truly inspirational for me

I've had to cut contact with my own mother for various reasons (issues of hers not mine, unfortunately) and I would think giving it time would be the best option. I realize it's difficult, but respecting her need for distance is another way of showing that you care. In the meantime it might be helpful to read up on "active listening" (a method of communication focused on conflict resolution, commonly used by counselors and therapists) for when she does reach out. It may even give you some ideas for breaking the silence yourself if you feel that's possible for the two of you. I sincerely hope it works out for you.

Went through this with our oldest son for years. Didn't have a clue where he was living, but I did have a telephone number. Monthly would give him a call (it always went into voicemail) and just told him we loved him and thought good thoughts for him. You never know. She has to work out her own issues-you cannot do it for her.

I think your actions alone speak the words you can’t say ❤️ Keep working on your own health goals and show her how much she inspires you. Show up when it counts and let her know that you are always there.

actions indirectly say alot. She might have unblocked you to see how your doing, to gauge if your at a place she might feel inspired herself. Just post your successes and achievements, she might surprise you and send you the compliment..totally great time to tell her then shes your inspiration.
