Mine says 1800? Idk. I’m going to try it for two weeks and then if I am gaining drop it down a little more maybe to 1500

I’m currently at 2000 cal. This supposed to be a slight deficit for me. Going to see over time as I think I have cut way too low in the past and shut my metabolism down. I’ve always thought of calories as size and macro as body composition. Calories at 5’-6” would really depend on what your goal weight is and activity level. Have you tried a BMR calculator?

I'm 5'8 and eat 4000 a day. 🤣😂😭 I'm cracking myself up, all alone, with my coffee in the sunporch.

At 5’6” I lose on about 1400 but that’s for days of light movement… if running etc I definitely need to eat more to make it through the day. I find the fs calculator predicts too high

I find the BMR calculator to be my preferred guide. I agree with cindylynnwho, the FS calculator is too high. There are BMR calculators online, such as this one: https://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html

Type in “calorie calculator” on-line. I’d choose Mayo Clinic one. You enter your weight, height, age, and ACTIVITY level. It’ll calculate calories for maintenance, gain, and deficit. Many many nutritionists recommend to not go below 1500. You need, on average 1450 or so (depending on how much sleep you get) just for basic bodily functions. And you’ll feel hungry all the time. It took me about 12 months to fully lose 52 pounds in a deficit of 1600 - 1800. I’m 5’4” so that might be different for you, of course. I’ve been in maintenance for 7 months so now I’m eating 2000 - 2200 daily. I PREFER 1800 - 1900 but have been on oral steroids and have found it difficult not to eat 8000 calories daily LOL 😂 I’m still working on finding my “sweet spot” of calories and exercise but I manage my type 2 diabetes all through food and exercise, no meds now. Got my wisdom tooth taken out (6 days ago) so no exercise lately 🙄 BUT NUTRITION is definitely NUMBER 1 when losing weight. CICO does matter and when you exercise you can calculate those calories against the “IN” calories. For me at age 55, I’ve learned that building muscles matters. (15 pound dumbbells w/HIIT) 2-3 Xs per week has helped my body to reset my metabolism. My cardio is WALKING. Another bit if advice that could help…eliminate sodas and most of your processed foods. Use some sort of calorie tracker and try and get 7-8 hours of sleep. Besides food, sleep is extremely important in weight loss. I KNOW THIS WAS LONG, sorry for that, but hope this helps. Good luck.

I prefer the calorie calculator at calculator.net. It does not round my estimated calorie needs to the next multiple of 50, only to the whole number. I maintain on 1794 calories. Right now my IBS is flaring up and I am bloated, so I am heavier than my normal weight.

And prioritize your protein. Many nutritionists recommend 1g per body goal weight. Fat is not necessarily your enemy if it’s a healthy fat, sugar and processed foods are (they high in calories and inflammatory) and will not help w weight loss, just hinder it. Not saying you can never have sugar but it should be lowest on food list. Also, alcohol should be very low or none.

It really depends on your metabolism and your activity level. If you get a DEXA scan, you'll get an estimate. You can also get it measured more accurately. I don't know where you are, but if I can get it done out in the sticks...

I'm 5"9 and 324lbs and fat secret estimate my calories for 2300 using the Mayo clinic bmr calculator they estimate it at 2200 for someone who is inactive and I usually try to keep my calories at 1700 or under but there's days when I do go over by a little bit or up to 200cal sometimes not often that much tho and I like sticking to 1700 it helps me loose weight and I don't get really hungry unless I eat crap foods and then I will crave sweets or carbs .
