I went to talk to my doctor today.

I told him that I have dieted for 5 weeks, pretty close to 100% and no cheat days. I told him I was eating about 1600 calories and working out with a trainer 3x a week. I told him I have mild sleep apnea and the doctor told me to lose weight to deal with it. I told him that I would think, if SOMETHING was working, at LEAST my clothes would fit a little better. I told him my thyroid was checked within the past 6 months when they discovered my estrogen and progesterone were low. I told him I'm frustrated because in 5 weeks I didn't lose a thing. In 5 weeks, I didn't feel any better in my clothes. In 5 weeks, I didn't feel any healthier.

You know what he said? "Eat less, work out more, you will notice a change in 3-4 months."

MONTHS??? MONTHS??? How can I hang on for 3-4 MONTHS to notice ANY change??? I am SOOO discouraged!!!

Doctor's are so hypercritical!! They speak a good game but how many of them actually follow their own advise?? I feel your pain of discouragement, but don't give up. You have done it for 5 weeks and that is impressive and they say that after 30 days of doing something it becomes habit. So hopefully it becomes habit of eating healthier and exercise that in due time all the hard work will show. Don't give up!!!

Try changing your macronutrient levels...i have noticed that I do well with high protein, moderate fat, low carb. Also, if you are eating 1600 poor calories, or those that are not nutrient-dense, then you won't lose. Make sure most of your calories are coming from protein and veggies, rather than chips, for example.

You need a different doc... I had a one size fits all doc, he wouldn't listen to my concerns. I went to a new doc, and another, and another, I have one now I just love!!! she is geared to promoting health not just medicating symptoms. Her view is working together to find a solution to get her patients healthy and keep them that way. If she does ship me to a specialist it's one with her same views.

One thing to look at is the quality of what you eat - not just calories. Lower carbs, higher fat and protein - though it may seem weird - good fats actually keeps us full longer so you end up eating less. And, drink at least 96 ounces of water every day. Also too much sodium makes it hard to lose - it should be under 2000mgs a day. Just want to be encouraging with some ideas - not criticizing you!

Oh my gosh how frustrating! I would keep doing what you're doing and go about finding another dr if possible. It took me a couple tries to find the one I really like. You know your body better than anyone. If you think something isn't right, don't let one dr shoot you down.

Oh yes, and I agree about finding a supportive doctor who works with you~!

You need a new doc, hun. I would drop closer to 1200 cal and make sure your trainer is qualified. I had one that tore my rotator cuff for me. You know you have to do cardio on top of a trainer, right? As for doc, you need a young doc who is new to a practice. they have more time to be thourough and are not yet jaded. That's how after ok thyroid tests and an ass of a doc, I finally found out I had thyroid cancer. After 20 years of no thyroid, I am finally going to see an endocrinologist for my weight and other medical issues.

IF I WERE YOU I WOULD LOOK INTO THE PRISM PROGRAM....ITS NOT A DIET...ITS LEARNING TO EAT HEALTHY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE....MY DAUGHTER HAS LOST 75 POUNDS AND HAS KEPT IT OFF...NOT THROUGH A DIET PROGRAM BUT LEARNING HOW TO EAT HEALTHY....YOU DO GET RID OF SUGAR AND WHITE FLOUR.....BUT, ANYWAY....LOOK INTO PRISM

All I can think to say is, "stay at it". You must be healthier for the effort.. I also have heard that often the first period of breaking into a diet and exercise routine won't show much change while the body is gaining muscle, adjusting its metabolism. My weight loss (a year ago)was based on 1100 to 1200 calories per day, I didn't know any better and lost muscle as well as fat. keep going and stay doing a good thing.

Reduce your caloric intake to 1400 and do more cardio if you're not doing it already. Cardio makes you breathe harder and the oxygen you inhale helps to burn the fat (according to Fit or Fat, book written in the 80s, I think). Try to do at least 20 mins of cardio on your days off from working out. You should see results then.

I have found that I never lose weight until I'm staying between 1200 and 1400 calories, I have tried before eating 1500 calories and working out with high intensity spinning and running and didn't lose a pound, but once you get closer to 1200, the pounds start falling off. Keep at it! If you already have been dieting for 5 weeks your already into the swing of things!

Honestly, sleep apnea is dangerous and can kill one. Everyone here will have different weight loss advice, they are telling you what worked for them, they are all right, their method works for them. You need a good doc for your apnea. Period.... then get worried about your weight loss. Sure losing weight often helps apnea but it doesn't help if you are dead...

That is not right. I went to my doctor and he gave me the same cock & bull story, then I went to a weight loss specialist. She is excellent. Let me tell you, 2013 - 2014, when I was going to her and adhering to her plan I went from 230 lbs to 180. I stopped going and then I got sloppy and the pounds started coming back slowly. I went back to her and she said, if you don't be careful the body has a tendency to want to go back to the old habits, so she gave me a new plan and I have already went down 10 pounds in a month, so find a doctor who specializes in weight loss. The first thing they will do is get your sleep apnea handled - that is what she did for me. As my weight came off, it became less of a problem.

Sorry, not trying to scare you. If you have apnea you need to address that before anything else. 2nd ex-dh was a respiratory therapist.

Personally if I keep my calories to about 1500 and walk 5 times a week for 30-40 minutes, I lose. I dropped 80 4 years ago. Just did it that way. Gained 10 last year by being a bit too free with my caloric intake. Started again on the 7th. Have already dropped 7 pounds. My strategy worked then and it works now for me.

I took the liberty of looking at your food diary. You've got to document all food. Do that for a couple of weeks and get an idea of what you might be doing wrong. Perhaps too many carbs, too many calories or fat or need to up protein. Then consider a different type diet. When it comes to losing, the docs are useless. They're quick to tell you you're to fat and to lose but when it comes to guidance, they know nothing.

So disappointed in the doctors response. Just seems lazy on his part. Doesn't take much to say "eat less, exercise more, see me later". At any rate, seems like you are doing the right thing. Hopefully the scale will reflect it more.

Wow! I am a physician and I agree we are not schooled in nutrition. Consider getting another physician trained in holistic medicine. Diets do not work. Realize the word "die" in diet. A lifestyle change with one simple step mastered and then add another you can then have long lasting changes. Start simple - ample water! Make this journey fun! Do you have a buddy? Sending you encouragement.

Just wanted to say, hang in there. It took me a long time to lose my weight. It helped me to think of it more as a lifestyle change than a diet. I knew it would take time. Be patient with yourself!

Well... not to be the devils advocate... but he got it 50 % right. He should have said 1. Eat a little less, 2. Exercise (walk if need be) a little more, 3 drink plenty of water, and 4. Get plenty of sleep. It's all free, requires little brain power, and will get results. Knowing HOW MUCH LESS TO EAT IS THE KEY, and that is easy enough to figure out. Yes, there is a lot you CAN learn about nutrtion, but get the ball rolling with this 80 % solution first. After 3 months of steady FAT LOSS, then you can start to worry about macros, and healthy choices. See my profile for Free resources, or message me and I will email u step by step info how I lost 70 lbs in 2014... FOR FREE
