I'm a food addict. It's just a matter of time before I go back to indulging in my constant wishes of chalupas/100% beef hot dogs/Mountain Dew/wings..etc.. I need to find a way to start thinking of something besides food, it's always on my mind..

Food is an addiction! I think about food constantly too. I guess it'll always be that way, but this site truly helps control my cravings when I can actually see what the heck I am eating in calorie form. The only thing I can think of is the occasional allowance of foods we love. I am already stressed about next week with Easter and my birthday and all the treats that come along - thank GOD I don't like candy so much. I've already been fearing an unexpected weight gain and a bloated stomach. Portion control could help? Could you make your own "healthy" wings or have a beef hotdog without a bun? I'm not sure. If you find the solution, let me know.

Thanks allie :) Yeah, I constantly think about all these things as well.. The healthy wings, beef hotdog w/o bun.. I guess it just takes away from the fun. So depressing that the worst things in the world for us taste so damn good...

Agreed! Treat yourself to them then! Have a hot dog tonight - maybe it'll lift you spirits and you won't gain 20 lbs from a single hot dog (with a whole wheat bun!).

Yep, you gotta give yourself a litle somethin' somethin' now anfd then. I have found that this sctually DOES stop some of the obsession. If a hot dog is a treat now and then, and not a staple, at least you dont have to look at the situation as "I can never, ever, have a hot dog again... That s unrealistic, and simply a bummer.

Agreed, the more I read about this "spike" diet the more I think it may be a perfect fit for my lifestyle.

There are fat free dot dogs that are really low in calories. I have found that by taking the time to look at labels while shopping and not throwing the first or cheapest thing I see in my basket I have improved the things I have in the pantry and fridge. When I go to snack or indulge I have more healthy items. Sugar free jello 10 calories, activia light yogurt, 70 calories, light frigo mozerella 70 - 80 dependant on the cheese. Cottage doubles, 100 calories, Popchips, 100 calories. You just have to stop at one serving. Who would have thought that there was fat free cheese with only 25 calories per slice:) There are also items called sandwich rounds that are only 100 calories per roll to make sandwiches and bagel thins with half the calories. There are also buns of whole wheat or multigrain. Losing weight doesn't mean you have to starve or deprive. It is just rethinking what you eat and counting calories. As to thinking of food all the time, I have found that by thinking ahead and packing my lunches I have counted calories, or picked out more healthy items to eat and not just grap what ever is there. I also had to get tough love on myself and clean out the pantry, fridge, and freezer and only have more healthy choices. I graze through out the day on different vegetables, try to monitor sodium intake and drink lots of fluids. Mountan dew is high in calories and addictive. I think, would a switch to diet mountain dew kill me until I can wean down to a lower amount. Or how about a switch to water or crystal light if I need flavoring in the water. As to the food thoughts, switch to thinking about when is the last time I had a drink of water, some fruit or veggies. Change your eating habits to 4-7 times a day in smaller healthier portions of veggies or items instead of 3 could help. You will soon find once your body gets used to the pattern change you may not think of food as much if you are more full. Hope these suggestions help. Food is a comfort and can be addictive, but by rethinking and making healthier choices it can be a lifestyle change.

Saw you're starting the Spike diet, please let me know how this works for you. I think it really could be a great weightloss program. I basically do follow it but won't allow myself to accept it. :) Post information about what you eat too, I'll take some tips from it (smaller portions, naturally). :) Goodluck!
