Hey guys; I have a question: what's the protocol for a service that's been rendered that you are completely not satisfied with? I went for a teeth whitening yesterday, and the treatment burned the skin on my lips and left me in pain. It's over 24 hours later and my lips are burning and I still have a migraine. I also had a family dinner last night and was highly embarrassed and not feeling well! I already paid but if this were a product from a store I would take it back! Actually part of the treatment is a home kit to continue the treatment. The other thing is, my teeth are still yellow! Can I ask for a refund? It's a very pleasant office and they offered to do the treatment again to get better results, but there's no way I want to go through this again. I'm scared to even continue with the at home treatment . ..

You were at a dentist or teeth whitening service? Take your receipt and the unused portion back and ask for a refund. You clearly have a reaction to this that makes it unsuitable to you. Unfortunately, if they will not refund voluntarily then your only recourse would probably be small claims court. You can also go to the manufacturers website on the substance and find a place to complain there. What I find that works with corporate, is looking up all of the executives names, position and e-mail and also make sure you address someone in HR. CC every one on the complaint. As a handful of people get it, that eliminates them ignoring it. Your best bet is to ask the provider to refund. If not, you can rock the boat at corporate and that will probably work. If you went to a dentist, I think you have a better chance than a teeth whitening service- I have actually seen those in the mall. Your best bet for a refund is human decency. If none of that works, post a ton of reviews on them on line and mail the copies to the dentist- tell him to refund if he wants the posts updated. Dentists have to build their business and usually, they are customer reactive as it is an optional choice to have dental work and insurance pays little of your care. They usually work harder to satisfy customers. You need to go in person, with the receipt and ask for a refund on the whole enchilada. Take pictures if you have burns or swelling that will show. That will help in small claims court. It is so small, it would be hard to have this go through as malpractice, in fact way to small.

I would let them know, maybe you are sensitive to some of the chemicals used. My daughter, dental assist, says there should be no side affects like that.

You need to ask your specific dentist if they have a satisfaction guarantee. If so, tell them you're not satisfied and ask for your money back. If they don't have that, then never have a procedure like this done at a place that doe not have a guarantee like this. It's a buyer beware less on for us all.

I agree with the above. Call or go to the office and tell them about the reaction and ask if you can at least get a portion of your money back for the unused at home treatment. Maybe they can give you some info on how to treat these side effects too. Another thing is to take pics, especially if this is something you think you would take to small claims court. If your lips are visibly changed and your teeth aren't whitened it would be good to have proof. Good luck! I hope the side effects go away soon!

Agree with comments above. Were there any disclaimers you signed before receiving treatment? I'd definitely talk to the company, regardless, to try to get your money back. If you do take them to small claims court, you'll want photos of teeth and lips and you should also see a doctor or dentist for backup verification re the burns. You'll also need to keep all your paperwork re the procedure. But, try first to talk with the business you went to. If they don't respond, send a complaint letter via certified mail, return receipt requested. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!
