TGIF in a big way. The days are getting longer and the fact that it's supposed to hit 59 degrees today? Wow.

I've been a day behind all week. Literally, I thought Tuesday was Wednesday, Wednesday was Thursday, and then I was anxious all day yesterday, because I was pi$$ed it wasn't Friday. For some reason, I was just off kilter in every way except for my diet. What does one do in these situations? Work out of course, which is what I did 4 days in a row.

My wife came home for the weekend last night and made dinner - Broccoli-Shallot Frittata - which was great. I thought it would have been too egg heavy, but not at all. This brings me to:

I still find it amazing how many new combinations you can have with raw food stuffs. When you "make" pre-prepared food (Lets be honest, you're only heating them up to the point of reanimation), you put the thing in the oven and 12-18 minutes later you get what's in the picture on the box and you're pretty sure what it’s going to taste like. But when you are making something from scratch, you are constantly tasting and adjusting the flavor throughout. Also, if you do not like the end product, you can change up the ingredients next time you make it. If you try a pre-processed food for the first time and don’t like it, you more than likely have 3-7 more servings (more if you shop at Sam's, Costco, or BJ's), of the same s**t, you just choked down. Sure you can douse it with Franks Red Hot, but you still have that feeling in the pit of your stomach, more so because Swanson took you for a ride, but also combined with what Swanson just did to you.

What can we start the weekend with? I got it. Spring is coming, pitchers and catchers have reported, so here is something from Bull Durham, one of the classic baseball movies of all time (one of, not the most. Also, how annoying is it that someone somewhere deemed it a “Chickflik,” so it is no longer a baseball movie? Answer: Quite.). I think this applies to life as well, with a few word substitutions:

“…So relax! Let's have some fun out here! This game's fun, OK? Fun goddamnit. And don't hold the ball so hard, OK? It's an egg. Hold it like an egg.” – Crash Davis

And what did you say you were on this morning? So glad you and your pretty wife have a good time cooking together. My husband and I do alot of that in the spring and summer on the grill. I love to grill every thing. onions, squash, green peppers and the color ones. I love grilled corn on the cob.. We even grill a ham. We make slits in the ham and stuff garlic in them.. That way I can leave the garlic alone as I hate the stuff..Makes me ill if I eat it.. I like it, but can't eat it...have a wonderful weekend...Bren

This was really an entertaining read, CMR! I love it when people type as they would speak in person. Anyway, I totally get the whole cooking thing. It's a joy now. It took me a while to get why Gordon Ramsay always tells his competitors to taste what they're cooking while they are doing so. Call me an amateur. Now I do it all the time. And, yes, hot sauce only goes so far and then you realize how much money you wasted. Good job on your exercise this week too. Don't know why Bull Durham was labeled a chick flick - didn't know that! Weird. Have a great weekend!

I am not a baseball fan in any way shape or form but who the hell said Bull Durham was a chickflick???? I have watched it and I don't see chickflick. Oh and for the record, up here I blinked and I missed spring. Seriously, it is -23F BEFORE The windchill after the windchill its like -45F I am not impressed at all first 7" of snow and now the friggen cold. I also agree with what you said about cooking, and its funny you mentioned it in your journal because my journal today is going to be all about my cooking adventure for the last 2 weeks lol Have a great weekend!

Ahhhh pitchers and catchers reporting. A glorious time of the year indeed! Bull Durham is definately one of the top baseball movies of all time!

Technically it's a Spork Flick (a term coined by one of my favorite all time columnists on ESPN dot com). The reasons I've seen the most why it is considered a chick flick: 1) the love triangle (actually a sex triangle) between Nuke, Annie, and Crash, 2) The sex triangle is a central plot and arguably the main plot, and 3) (At the risk of ticking off a large portion of FS's users not to mention my buddies) It's shown on Lifetime, Television for Women. I've wasted too much time on this :) ... Oh, well I bought it on DVD before it was on Lifetime, so ... there you go...

All of that sounds phenominal, Bren. I'll have any garlic you don't want. I love it and my Wife knew I was Italian when she married me. Also, It's not to bad with a listerine strip chaser after dinner :-)...Food (HA, HA) for thought, garlic is also nature's strongest natural antibiotic. Take Care.

hahahah oh my I love that "it was on lifetime, television for women." that maked me laugh out loud. that is possibly the best reason for it to be a chick flick.

Thanks, Dsy - I've Actually heard that about my writing style before, but I never really paid it any mind. Maybe I should consider a career change? I Like it when the Hell's Kitchen chefs don't taste their food. It leaves more of a chance for him to smash the hot plate and make the salmon filet fly across the room!!!

LOL! I know others find his rants annoying but I've grown to find it entertaining. I like it when he hits his head against something b/c he can't take it anymore. I think his outbursts make him look so wrinkly.

That's Great, Dsy!!! Wrinkly? Not really the first thing I've noticed. :-). My favorite part is when a contestant actually step up to him, or even Sous-chef Scott. Let's forget for a moment that Ramsey is a master chef. He is obviously in great shape, he owns at least 1 restuarant for every season the show has been on, he has two reality shows on the air at the same time, AND he makes north of $12 million/year, give or take. He's been around the block a time or two and can dictate the path of the "Moron's" career. The only thing I don't like when this happens, is that there is a 92.43% chance that the person who toed the line is going home.

He has a very furrowed forehead but I guess I notice those things. Agreed. Ramsay definitely has the clout to call the shots. I had no idea he made that much - yowzas. Seems like there is a lot of "class" structure (if you will)in restaurants and respect/obedience is demanded in order to be upwardly mobile in the future. I find the dynamics very interesting.

Agreed.
