While I've left a comment or two on other journals, I haven't journalized much myself over the last 4-5 days. I guess it is a combination of being busy and being too far towards one of the poles. I hope I’m allowed a rant because I’m taking one…

It's a vicious cycle because when I've felt like this during my journey previously, I’d make it point to work out. It seemed I got home late every night last week and if I did a normal worked out, I would have dinner late, and then immediately go to bed. I don't like to eat immediately before bed. Not because I follow any hard and fast rule, but because I don't like the way it feels. So I didn't work out and my anxiety built upon itself.

I really thought I had a bad week, but the scale tells a different story. The only real extra exercise I got was shoveling snow and ice chopping on Tuesday and Wednesday. I guess I get credit for the walking I did shopping for rock salt on Friday and groceries on Saturday, but still. By the way, just so you know how crappy the winter has been in Southern New England: NO ONE had rock salt on the Berlin Turnpike. Say nothing of the Home Depot that was closed due to its compromised flat roof. (Babs and anyone else in CT take note :) ). Also I feel like I went a little overboard on my flex day this weekend as well as having had a few more empty caloric experiences with my old acquaintances The Captain (Morgan) and Johnny (Walker..Red) throughout the week. I'm down 5 pounds, but in my heart of hearts, I think it is a phantom 5; like water weight you lose the first week or so out of the gate.

On the plus side, my wife and I found more recipes that…well they are not on the same level as pizza in the Pantheon of “Foods I Could Have at Every Meal”…But they are certainly working their way into a rotation a notch below. I mentioned before that I want to the grocery store (Oh, remind me never to volunteer to for grocery store duty again…on Saturday Morning…when half the parking spots are taken by snow). It strikes me as really strange how my wife’s and my tastes have changed once we began eating healthier. Not only did I spend 20 minutes in the produce section, but I bought 4 different varieties of peppers!!! Also the only reason why I went into the stacks was for canned peaches and a small can of tomato sauce. We eat very little processed or pre-prepared foods anymore. In fact I have frozen tailgate food that may very well go unconsumed until September.

Kudo's on passing up the processed foods. I can relate to the snow... but we are suppose to thaw out next week! I don't think I could eat late... a snack yes... a full dinner no! For me it's still about calories in vs calories out, and the time when you eat shouldn't matter... but I agree who wants to eat a big meal and go to bed. Just not right!

I totally understand how anxiety can build upon itself when you have mediocre (or less than mediocre) days in succession. Mentall and emotionally the week may take a toll but it may not completely throw you to the curb physicallly. This is a new day and the beginning of a new week. I still give you a lot of credit for what you do considering the type of weather conditions you have to deal with. And the fact that you have made it a family affair to eat healthier is a great achievement. 20 mins in the produce section? Nice. Re: "Stacks" - I like your East coast talk! Keep up the good work, CMR, since you don't have that much more to lose!

I agree Matt. I can only have a late meal if I plan on going to be late. I at least want the food to move out of my stomach before I lay down...I don't expect the snow to be gone until late April. Luckily Spring starts on Sunday (Pitchers and Catchers report) and is in full bloom by the beginning of March (Big East Tourney and March Madness).

Thanks, Dsy, but quite the contrary. 225lbs is merely my first goal, I have another one lined up for when I hit 225. Unfortunately, I'm going to hit 225 somewhere during the first Thurs. or Fri. of the NCAA Tourney. Oh well, I've been “snacking” throughout so getting a little lower while “snacking” shouldn't be an issue. The issue I foresee is maintenance...Regarding my family: It was my family that got me back on this track after 3 years. My Aunt and I had a heart-to-heart directly after Turkey Day, almost intervention-style and I credit my wife for keeping on my back once we got home (it helped that SHE FELT she also needed to shed a few). Even now, I don't think my body can get over how seriously the voices in my head are taking this.

I got it. . .well, small, measurable goals are key to achieving greater things. Failure to maintain is why I'm back on here after a hiatus last year. I know my goals are different than yours but the nature of the battle is similar, which is why FS is valuable to so many people. I'm glad you have support b/c without it the journey would seem much more insurmountable. Re: "the voices" or internal dialogue (whatever you want to call it) can be quite burdensome. The key is to make sure that what 'they're' saying is not a hindrance but, rather, an impetus to further successes. I - and I'm sure I don't only speak for myself - totally understand. Keep your chin up!

For those of you not in Connecticut, the Berlin Turnpike is a short stretch, say about 10 miles, of State Route 5/15 between Hartford and Meriden. I mentioned it only because pretty much every "Big Box Store" and chain restaurant operating in the Northeast has a franchise on that road. In short, one would think they would be able to find anything they wanted in that area...Alas, I found my rock salt, so I am now over it. Happy 2nd week of February everyone...

CMR-Can't believe you couldln't find rock salt on the Berlin Tpk but I know everybody has been out of that and roof rakes!. I been out of pocket up in Mass all week, my 80 yr old dad slipped and fell on the ice and fractured his hip, had a replacement and is now in rehab. Damn the ice! Yeah, gotta watch out for those flat roofs, fortunately we have a good pitch on ours and no leaks or ice damning to date! You? By the way, it is snowing right now!!!! Hey, don't pass the loss off to a fluke, you worked hard shoveling all that snow and roaming the market! LOL :)
