I got dizzy getting up from a chair today (even my legs tightened up), and had heard here on FS that could mean a lack of minerals or water or something?
My slight raise in weight (.2 lb) proves the point that it usually takes more than one day to really lose a pound, that it takes a deficit over a period of time to make up the 3600 calories of one pound. The water our bodies retain from salt, or how much is in our intestines contribute to what the scale says. I had fasted for 22 hours before lunch yesterday, ending eating at 2pm, and started fasting again. From 2pm yesterday to 8am this morning when I weighed myself is another 18 hours, and the scale was up a fifth of a pound. My lunch was only soup and salad but the salad dressing was calorie dense. I picked out the potato from the clam chowder, and every last noodle from the chicken soup. So it will be back down eventually if I eat right.
Fasting total today 22 hours. PS I have started taking potassium 200-400mg

Consider, if you don't already, word games, board games, crossword puzzles, and reading. These activities are designed to help defeat or slow down dementia. Again, talk to your doctor. Ask lots of questions. And be kind to yourself. Try meditation as well. Enough information. Have I given you overload?? 😁

Thank you so much for your comments. Yes, rosio19, I saw charts on your journals and I do fit in with the picture of skinny fat with her big stomach. You are absolutely right, I need to educate myself, had not heard of that term before. I had weighed 112 when I was 5' 3 3/4" and was just about right and could wear size 4 at that time. It was a good weight for me, but on FS I put in my goal of 105 since my body has completely changed with age and I have lost almost 3 inches in height. I'm surprised at the rapid weight loss and my fat stomach is becoming better, so we will see what transpires. And yes, a balanced diet is the most important, except you say nutrition will never tackle my issue. Actually my issue is not weight, even though I weighed 125.7 on Nov 10th, less than 3 months ago. The reason I joined FS was because of "fuzzy" brain, being concerned I might be one of the 48 to 50% now getting dementia, and want to slow it down or reverse it. The autophagy of fasting can help that. Since daily fasting on IF is not a diet, one can actually gain weight depending on what you eat during your shortened eating window. You are so absolutely right, I do need to exercise, and I have been negligent in that area. I will need to be careful though, I was born with multiple fractures of the L5 vertebra below my waist that never healed. It is somewhat common and is called spondylolisthesis and even though I can remember having pain since I was 4 years old, I got by with a fairly active life style skiing, gardening, and camping in a tent or minivan, even 3 months at a time, even though they told me in my 30's to never bend over and even pick up a Klennex, or to bend forward to brush my teeth, and to never make a bed. Even then I had deteriorating disks around it. My husband has always been pretty demanding of me, helping him lift heavy things, etc. saying I was acting like a cripple already. Six years ago I broke T11, helping my husband when he fell. Now that I am 77, time has taken a toll, and I will never look like I did at a younger age. Even in the last 3 months my face is much more wrinkled, but again, it is not important for me to lose any more weight, stomach or no. But I am fiercely independent and don't want to end up in a government nursing home, 2 beds to a room. I like to eat my own cooking and look at the trees and flowers, having planted nearly 100 rose bushes. I am concerned about my brain, and have read some about it because my 82 year old husband has memory loss. I want to be independent and will have no one to take care of me. I mostly jump on my little rebounder, did 50 minutes last night, and do some floor exercises. I am so glad for you that you have lost your weight and are working to live a healthy lifestyle. You are absolutely gorgeous, and I am so happy for you. Please give your sons a kiss for me. My son was killed by a drunk driver. Have a blessed day. P.S. I sure hope you see this, could you please let me know.

If you are 112lbs are you sure you need to fast regulary for 20 hours or so?? Forget minerals you're malnourished! At your weight soup and a bit of salad in 48 hrs is telling me you are seriously malnourished and need to eat more to prevent dizziness.

May I leave one more message to reassure some of you, and I so appreciate your concern for me, so in love want to share I have not had a heart replacement, and I love to read. Yes, I don't think I will be fasting as much but keeping my daily eating window to 8 or maybe 6 hours which allows 2 meals and a snack. The day in question, Sunday I not only had a humongous salad with 4 oz of chicken, plus the soup, which equaled almost 1,000 calories, of which there was no junk, potatoes, rice, pasta, or sweets, and didn't eat dinner because I was still full. The next day when I said I fasted for 22 hours, I had 2 healthy meals including 8oz of scallops, egg, fresh spinach, non-cured bacon, coconut oil, and fresh vegetables equaling almost 1200 calories. I have not gone one day without eating, but I do tend to have too much protein and too many carbs for true Keto. No, I have not been Kento adapted before fasting, but have never fasted more than part of a day, 20 hours was very unusual for me, it's usually 16 hours just shortening my eating window, usually to an 8 hour window. I am so appreciative of your concern for my health. I do have a cardiologist and internist at UCLA and regularly see them. Also I have a blood panel regularly and monitor my blood pressure daily, often before I take any medication. Thanks again for your concern and advise. How will I know if any of you see this message and my thanks, maybe I should put it on toay's journal instead of at the bottom here?

@Snowwhite100, click your "My FatSecret" tab, then look at the right column on that page. Under the heading "My Messages," click "My Notifications." There you'll find a list of all the responses/comments to your journal posts, usually showing the Member's name and what they're responding to (just the first two lines). You don't have to read every one. You can scroll down the list. If you see something you're interested in reading and/or responding to, you can click "view journal entry" or "view comment."

When you click "My Notifications," you'll also see the comments that others have added to threads in which you have participated. There are other items, too. Go to "My Notifications" and check it out!

Finally, if I was your age and had your combination of health issues, I'd rely more on professional advice than the well-meaning comments of FatSecret members. You want to optimize your long-term health and well-being. Your reference to "UCLA" makes me think you live in the Los Angeles area. There are probably a number of "gerontologists" (also called "geriatricians"), physicians who specialize in the treatment of elder persons, in Southern CA. If your internist does not specialize in treating older people, perhaps he can refer you to someone in that speciality for a consultation.
