Jacaranda tree. Double bloom. They had enough water this year. I only have leaves, but I’m glad because it’s a great shade tree. 

STUNNING! I have never seen one before. Do they smell as good as they look?

Thank you for your comments. In late March and early April, cherry blossom are all over in Japan. At that time, Japanese people enjoy eating “Bento” as they see the beautiful pale pink flowers. One thing I miss here in LA is that event in every springs. Every May, I look forward to seeing these purple flowers. Jacaranda blossoms are instead of cherry blossoms for me. However, there’s one big difference between cherry blossoms and these purple flowers is “smell”. When the purple one dropped off on the street, it smell like cat’s urine, but not cherry blossoms. Also, if you like your car, especially right after washed, I urge you not to park your car under the Jacaranda! These nectar make your car messy and sticky.  

Here in my area of Southern California, the founding fathers planted Jacaranda trees on both sides of the streets so that they meet in the middle creating massive purple tunnel over the streets. They are a mess. People have to cover their car with car tarps to protect them. Sometimes I’m surprised that they haven’t been cut down. 

Ahhh a shame they are a nuisance as well as a beautiful. Thank you for explaining. The Cherry Blossom Festival photos I've seen look beautiful. I would love to experience it.
