I got an email today from a fellow competitor (in another contest) whose opinion I trust. He is also a trained judge, though not the other night. It said this:
Of all the speeches in your contest, I would have given you first place. Your speech was personal, revealing, uplifting, and simple to understand. The other two speeches were good, but yours was better. During your speech, I looked around the room to see who the judges were. Many were overweight and many were older, and I am wondering how they were digesting your message. I don't know how any of this affects how they scored the candidates, but I know, as a judge, sometimes my prejudices get in the way of a fair and honest score.
Ah-ha! Mystery solved. My speech may have hit a little too close to home for some of the judges in my speech contest who may have felt that I was telling them that their days were numbered. Yikes.
I now feel at peace. This email was exactly what I needed and now the thought of consolation pizza just makes me laugh. Ever since Buffy Bear introduced me to Bolthouse Farms, I'm addicted to the Blue Cheese and the Balsamic, both so ridiculously low-calorie, it seems like a sin. I'll be "indulging" in a salad later on. Yum.
Thanks again to all my friends here who supported me.
I'm already planning next year's speech for when I'm down another 75 pounds to 150 and I'll call it, "Half The Woman I Used To Be."

Thanks, Lynn. It made me feel content. You can pray for feelings of contentment, then sometimes your prayers are answered by a freakin email. LOL!

Curious that you posted this. I wondered who the judges were and how your speech would have been received. Knowing from experience, when you're doing something people can't, won't or resent you doing because you're going to look good or better then them, it can become sour grapes. I have a SIL who no longer talks to me. Maybe because I'm the same size as her and I was always her little SIL (sarcasm) and always offered me her hand-me-downs knowing full well I couldn't fit my left thigh in them. I am hoping she'll start offering the clothes as she pays a kings ransom for her stuff. Glad you've got peace in your heart and mind. You've Won!!!

Good for you... I'm so glad this other judge spoke up & it gave to some peace of mind. BTW, half the woman you used to be is still so much more than so many! Xoxoxo

Love it! That's something no judge can minimise - whatever their size. It is a winning title and accompanied with your speaking style surely cannot fail to win 1st place? Enjoy the losing (pun intended) and await your double win next year xxx

NM, yes, you can smirk that you were right again, but I needed to hear it for a fact from someone who was there and saw it for himself. Thank you all for the inspiration to keep going. I'm very pleased with he way things turned out now that the dust settled. My Journal today will reflect on that and something Classic said, too.

YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR !!!!! I know I have been convicted in the past (and jealous too) of people being successful with weight loss and changing to healthy habits. It's always easy to complain. Once I was convicted completely that I had to change, deep down, that's when I started my own journey. I'm seeing it now from your side of things, too. I too have told people in my WW meeting that if I don't lose the weight and get healthy, I will not be alive in a few years. Already a heart patient with a stent at my age, and even that didn't completely do the trick. Had to grown up a little more and have another small crisis before I got smart.
