Finally, it's beginning to head down again. My weight shot up because I'v been taking Gabapentin, a nerve drug, to cope with the pain from shingles. Unfortunately, one of the side effects from the drug is weight gain (some of it, it looks, from water retention). I've stopped taking the drug as the pain has eased, and my weight has started to go down.
The problem is that the pain may return. The shingles eruption went away, but the nerve pain may recur more than once. The eruption was in my ear and the pain was located in my jaw. I have a list of people on whom I wish a comparable degree of pain. It isn't long.
Unfortunately, one of the side effects of the drug that suppresses the neuropathy is weight gain.
