Water water water. Today is a day of water for me. But I am wondering, how much water is really required? On my FB site they say to drink to thirst. Other places say to drink half your body weight (in oz). For me that is 100 oz. I generally can get 80 oz in a day with little difficulty but 100 is much harder for some reason and can even make me nauseous. Just wondering what works for my friends.

Rule of thumb usually says 8 glasses a day. It's more difficult to drink in winter I'm already freezing lol

I agree with Patty. About 64 oz is plenty for me. I asked my doctor about it (I ask my doctor everything!) a few years ago and she said all beverages count so it doesn't have to all be water. I try to drink more water than anything else though and still try to have at least 5 glasses of water that are 12 oz each.

So would you count something like bullion? I don’t count coffee because I use cream and a sweetener and I think that kind of ‘muddies the water’. Lol

I can do 96oz per day.

GREAT JOB gettting in 80 oz! I have a goal of 64oz a day, but I'm lucky if I get 16 oz in......yes ONE bottle.....I HATE water and usually drink tea, hot chocolate and coffee all day cuz it's FREEZING in this building!!! Then I go home and the hubs keeps it at 65 so again I'm freezing and just drink coffee, tea, or hot chocolate! :) AND NO - I'm not drinking luke warm plain water.......yuk

Oh how I wish it was 65 at my house. My poor 99 yo grandmother is bedridden and ALWAYS freezing. I keep a fan on me and a window open and still have difficulty sleeping because it is too warm. They keep it between 72 and 75 and I literally sweat

Newnbetter - I probably wouldn't count bouillon in with my beverage total. But I count the diet sodas, milk, tea. But I do try to drink at least 2 or three bottles of water that are 16.9 oz. Starting in January my intent is to stop drinking diet soda but I will probably have a small glass of orange or pineapple juice each day. I'd count coffee if I drank it. I never know what is the temperature to keep my house at in the winter. I turn the heater off at night and it's usually in the 50's when I wake up (we are having a mild winter so far). I turn it up to between 63-65 which is usually okay but sometimes I feel cold and will go as high as 68. I'd be sweating too if it was 72-78. Funny but in the summer I keep it between 76-78 before the air conditioner turns on.

I think 8×8 oz is enough. The macro biotic diet said to drink when thirsty. Problem is many Americans are dehydrated because they forget to drink water or enough liquid. And, thirst can be confused with hunger--so we eat more.

I keep water room temp at my house. I can drink more if it isn’t iced. I also will add a little Sole and lemon if I am bored of the flavor, I also drink a lot of high quality herbal teas. I think the “quality” of what you are drinking matters. I personally don’t count any dirt sodas or even coffee... coffee makes me potty a lot... it can actually have dehydrating effects for me and soda with artificial flavoring, sugar and coloring... I find it to be not a healthy substitute for water.

Your body uses water in many ways. Water cushions and lubricates joints; nourishes and protects the brain, spinal cord and other tissues; keeps the body's temperature normal; and helps remove waste through perspiration, bowel movements and urination. Humans are composed mostly of water, which is not surprising when you consider that humans descended from single-cell organisms that originated in the oceans millions of years ago. Lack of Water Water is more important for your body's survival than food. You can live without water for approximately one week, but you can survive without food for more than a month. Lack of water, or dehydration, reduces the amount of blood in your body, forcing your heart to pump harder in order to deliver oxygen-bearing cells to your muscles. In the early stages of dehydration, you can become dizzy, irritable and experience headaches. As dehydration progresses, you become clumsy and exhausted. Your eyesight fades. In the last stages of dehydration, you may feel nauseous and begin vomiting. Without water, you will enter a coma and die. Too Much Water When you drink too much water, you can develop a condition known as hyponatremia, in which the excess water floods your body's cells, causing them to swell up. Your swollen brain cells then cause a wide range of symptoms, including a bad headache, nausea, cramps, mental confusion, convulsions, fatigue, coma and death. Hyponatremia has killed runners during marathons.

I would count bouillon and I make sure I have at least one serving every day. Between low carb / keto diet and drinking that much water, I need the salt. The symptoms of "Keto flu" and dehydration can mostly be avoided by making sure you get enough salt in your diet.

Drink only when you're thirsty - been working for me for seven months now.

I have a nutritionist working with me, and we discuss water and foods along with making menus. I went on an 800 cal diet for 10 days and then back to 1200 cal daily. The water is what helped keep me in check with my goal. Always told 8 8oz glasses daily. For me I should be drinking 96 oz or more each day in order to see a difference in weight loss. You are close to my weight and goal weight. We can do this.

My nutritionist requires a minimum of 64oz of everyone. My cardiologist however, because of my syncope wants me to keep my blood volume high so has asked me to try to double that especially if the day is hot. But I’m allowed to count all non-caffeinated and non-carbonated beverages. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When my doctor told me all liquid counts - I think she meant for staying hydrated. I wasn't trying to lose weight at that time. I find drinking water boring, and like Mamamc7 I like it better at room temperature, at least this time of year. When I've eaten things I shouldn't have, I drink extra water. I feel like it helps to flush out whatever bad thing I ate (usually chips). I feel water does that, don't think a diet pepsi helps flush out the bad things. I just feel like the water helps, don't know if it actually does.
