This is a reminder to myself:

Many months of overtime at work, mental exhaustion and feeling overwhelmed at times with not being able to get things done at home created a situation where I was not planning food and was eating what was quick and a few beers daily. Not processed foods but more animal proteins and veggies picked up on my way home. That behavior created food waste and few well planned lunches at work. I succumbed to eating the catered in lunches: often subs or sandwiches from nearby places, like Jason's Deli and a couple pubs nearby. The exhaustion led to little exercise as well and I love the feeling exercise gives me.

Wake up time: ended up with bronchitis, first time in over a year; Asthma is acting up daily: I'm tired all the time; too many breaks required working on projects; I've gained a few pounds not many back from my lowest weight. It's what I'm eating and the exercise I am not doing.

I do not want to go back to where I started this journey. Time to get back to my basics, which I have been doing more of the past couple weeks. In this restart phase started watching food documentaries and reading some of my vegetarian, whole foods and natural living oriented books.

This will be a week of going back to keeping track of foods, being diligent in adding recipes to my cookbook, also keeping track of the $$ spent, concentrating on organic veggies and fruits; grains; legumes. Dairy will still be extremely limited. I hope to have fresh eggs from a friend at work this week.

This means 2 grocery store trips this weekend 10 miles from me in opposite directions to meet that goal. One I can combine with a couple things I need for my coop construction as the stores are close. I was disappointed in the farmer's market a couple weeks ago but may run up there this morning. My frig is mostly empty of fresh foods so a good time to do this.

I've decided to mostly buy organic and non-gmo which I haven't done often in the past few years due to the asthma connection. I'm very chemical sensitive so hoping eliminating most chemicals from plant based foods it will help me get healthier.

FYI: chicks will be fed organically once the chick starter feed is gone. It is not organic as I couldn't find any for chicks only older chickens. I now have info on a feed store just north of the metro that carries a good supply of organic feed at reasonable prices.

Time to move as much to do on this beautiful Saturday.

Glen, agreed. Also this journey is an ongoing learning process toward the best health we can achieve for ourselves. Only one organic vendor at the market. She had mostly plants but did buy 3 summer squash, the ones I planted this year didn't grow. So planting some for fall. Drinking a morning smoothie with 2 types of squash, a banana, mint etc. So 3 servings of veggies and fruit for a late breakfast. The banana adds calories but is loaded with nutrients especially potassium that your body really needs.
