Sorry I've been a bit absent.

I started feeling awful last Tues. It was nothing I could put my finger on. I felt slightly nauseous and very light headed. I told Brenda it was vertigo, because I didn't really know how else to describe it. I couldn't stand looking at the computer screen for extended periods of time because it made me feel sicker. Actually, it still does.

After my last reply to Steph yesterday at around 4 p.m., I decided to lay down and try to sleep off the nausea. I tucked a trash bag under the edge of the mattress in case I couldn't move fast enough. I had been settled on the bed for about 10 minutes when the pain hit. I felt like someone was sticking a dagger in, centered, just at the point of my sternum.

I got up and called my son to take me to the emergency room. I realized shortly after that I was really in trouble. I felt like I was passing out and the pain became acute. I went to the door to unlock it and sat on a bench right by the door and called 911. At that point I felt like I couldn't breath and I couldn't think or speak too well. The dispatcher was having trouble making out what I was saying.

I moved far enough away from the door so that I wouldn't block it if I passed out. The EMTs got here pretty fast, but it seemed like forever and I was having trouble getting enough breath to talk to them through the pain. They got me in the ambulance and started fluids and oxygen. My blood pressure had dropped to 70/40.

When I got to the emergency room, I couldn't talk and I couldn't focus. They had to get my blood pressure back up to normal before they could give me anything for pain. When they finally did, they gave me morphine. I HATE MORPHINE! I've hated it since my foot/ankle reconstruction back in Jan 1990. It didn't make the pain go away, but it did make my head and face feel like they were swelling.

The Dr sent me for an ultrasound and I was having trouble laying on my back for it. I felt like I couldn't breathe and the pain was excruciating. We got through it finally and they put me back in my cubicle. Now, I know that some of you have probably already guessed what the problem was. By that time I was beginning to have an inkling. I had just never experienced anything like it before.

Yes, I was having a full-fledged gall bladder attack. OMG! Now I'm afraid to eat. Apparently, what set it off was the sweet potato I had for lunch. I put 3 TBS of Smart Balance Light on it, and there was enough oil to put me over the edge.

Before I got the diagnosis, they had given me another hit of morphine and it was finally taking the edge off the pain. They sent me home with instructions to eat no fat and the name of a surgeon I'm supposed to call Monday. I had my rice last night with no Smart Balance and my oatmeal this morning with no Smart Balance.

I must have been totally tensed up because every muscle and joint in my body is sore. That's my story of the last few days. I am such a wuss!

I was going to guess appendicitis! That is how I felt when I had to have my appendix out, it was horrible. Hang in there Jo! My girlfriend had an gall bladder attack a few months ago, it was just horrible so you not a wuss at all. The only positive about it was she ate lots of fruit and veggies and no fats! So she lost a bunch of weight and the had her gall bladder removed and feels like a new woman! Hang in there girl, sorry you had to go through so much pain, hope the doctor can get you in for surgery real soon, so you don't have to worry so much!

Gall bladder attacks can feel like a heart attack, if not worse. I was told for years I had gastro this and gastro that and given antacids to handle it. They never helped. It wasn't until I had my gastric bypass in 1998 the they found my gallstones. Removed my gall bladder at the same time as the bypass. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Bren, I'm supposed to talk to a surgeon Monday. I think the surgery is usually handled laparoscopically these days. Several of my DIL's relatives have had it done in the past 2 years, including her mother. Her niece, who has lost almost an identical amount of weight as I have at almost the identical time was told that weight loss caused her gall stones. (She's only 28.) They said that fat releases stored toxins into your system and the cleaning organs go into overdrive. Anyway, I'm sure glad I've lost as much weight as I have since I have to have surgery.

Thanks Jozette! I am trying really hard to keep any oil out of my food and will contact the surgeon on Monday.

LOL Curly! Thanks! I'm already eating loads of veggies and few fats. I'm hoping they can get me in for surgery real soon. I don't want to take a chance on another attack. OMG! That was awful!!! Hugs.

Karen, you are so right. I was really scared. It came on so suddenly. I felt like I was going to pass out. My feet and hands were going numb. The pain was so bad that I couldn't talk. My heart rate was below 50 bpm and my blood pressure dropped. Oh, and don't forget the nausea. I was sure I was having a heart attack and that's what the EMTs thought too. They were relaying data to the hospital, so I heard them. Thank goodness it was only gall stones, but now I'm afraid to eat. LOL!

Bonnie, after my daughter was born I had the same thing...it was the most excruciating pain I have ever had....ended up on the bathroom floor, covered in sweat, unable to breath, thinking I was dying, so I completely understand and I sympathize with you. Sure hope that the surgeon will get to you post haste and you are back to full speed in a hurry. As Bren said, the surgery now is laproscopic and so the recovery is a lot easier. Love you my sweet friend! Take care of yourself, and know I am praying for you! HUGS!!!

Bren, I'm hoping so too. I really don't want a drawn-out recovery time. Thank for the love. I'm sending love and hugs back.

Steph, the pain was right up there. I'd forgotten about the cold sweat until you mentioned it . . . yes, that too. I definitely thought I was dying because it came on so fast and, as you say, it was crushing pain. Thanks for the prayers. I can use them. Love you!!!

I am so sorry to hear what happened to you, I would have guessed gall bladder as my husband had an attack just like that April 2010 it was his second one and I insisted on him going to the emergency he didn't want to go and ended up have emergency surgery. I know the pain you were having was terrible. I am sending you {{hugs}} and prayers and hope you are sorted out asap.

Bless your Heart, Bonnie! What an awful thing to happen and now you have to wait? I would have been scared, too. Keep us to date. BIG HUGS!!!

What a story, Jo. I had no idea what you were going to say until the end. I had an emergency gall bladder removal is 2009, but it was nothing like that. Not sure why they didn't keep you until an operating room was available. That's what they did with me. Are you saying that your husband had his gall bladder removed and then had another attack? I didn't know that could even happen. I hope they take care of yours quickly. Feel better. We're all thinking of you.

I was thinking the same thing that I'm surprised they didn't do emergency surgery. It sounded awfully bad. Hopefully there is not a long wait list and you can have it done before this happens again. It sure is scary to go through so much pain. Take care.

Uggh - that sounds terrible Johanne. Hope they get it out soon and that you avoid another attack in the meantime.

Oh Johanne!! I hope you are getting the help you need - a close friend of mine had such trouble too and they seemed to avoid removing her gall bladder, but finally did, so she no longer has problems. Take care ♥
