Have been off sweets and most refined sugars (as much as possible with some soups and tomato sauce containing a bit). I have drastically increased my fresh vegetable and fruit intake. I know I have food addiction issues so what I have done is eat whenever I am hungry but make it a vegetable or fruit instead of popcorn and pizza. My thought is that at least I am eating good foods. My two biggest calorie sources are my protein/fruit smoothy in the morning and my cup of walnuts/almonds in the afternoon. I have had no pasta at all and the only bread has been whole grain that I had on 3 sandwiches over the week. I have considered getting a juicer but am cautious because I like to eat and I am not convinced that I will "feel full" without the fiber. I give myself one beer at night. :)

Bottom line... I feel good. I definitely think clearer and have more energy. I have been walking as I normally do but haven't jumped into a heavy workout routine yet. I plan to. What I have found is that when I work out hard (I still have a lot of stamina from being an endurance athlete in the past)I tend to get extremely hungry from the long workouts. I think this will be fine once I drop some weight and my body gets used to the change in eating habits.

There have been temptations. I have a half a box of candy left over from a conference I worked last week and the kids have had pizza a couple times this week. I eat some carrots or a piece of fruit, drink an extra glass of water and push on.

I know that this extra weight is holding me back from being the best I can be. I want to climb mountains and compete in sports again. My father has weight issues and type 2 diabetes. His mother died from complications of the disease. I will not take that path. I owe it to my kids to be here as long as possible and to myself to be as happy and healthy as I can be for the duration.
