I have a silly (beginner) question and KNOW someone on here will know the answer. I just realized that I only had CARBS listed on the top bar in my food diary, not NET CARBS. So I went into the settings and now show both. I'm pretty sure it's my NET carb number that I should really be paying attention to on a low carb, high fat keto diet, right? Today my total carbs are 26.5, but my total NET carbs are only 14.5. My little calorie breakdown wheel at the bottom of the food diary page that I always use to check my ratios only tracks all carbs. IS there a way to change that wheel to show my NET carb number??? Am I correct in assuming that if I need to stay below 30 carbs a day, it means below 30 NET carbs? I know i could probably find the answer online with some google research.... but hey, I know some of you smarties will know the answer off the top of your heads. :) Thanks!

You get net carbs by subtracting any grams of fiber from your total carb intake. Depending on the diet your following, 30g net carbs is probably a reasonable number.

I haven't found any way to change the fact that FS uses gross carbs when it works out the percentages shown at the bottom of your food diary page. BUT, the gross and net carbs are close enough that it probably doesn't really make much difference in these percentages.

Laura, I try to keep my NET carbs below 20 which usually puts my total carbs somewhere between 25 and 35 depending on whether I threw an Avocado in there or not, Avo's make your total carbs blow up, but barely makes a bump on the net :) What number of carbs you limit yourself to daily is completely up to your body. I have to stay below 20 net or I will gain weight, I have tried raising my carb intake and it always results in gains. Some people can lose weight with 40. 50 grams daily, I am not one of those fortunate few. To really get into ketosis you need to keep your TOTAL carbs at 5% or below, that is 5% of your entire calorie intake. For me at 1466 calories daily if I go above 20 Total carbs, it's more than 5% of my total intake. I try to a deep ketosis because I had a lot of weight to lose. It's a fairly flexable WOE and you don't have to be exactly perfect each day, I use my monthly calendar and use my daily averages to determine whether I am on track or not

If you are at 30 Grams a day of carbs and 10 grams of that is Fiber, technically you are at 20 grams of carbs. So with Fiber included if you are staying below 30, you are SAFE.

I try to stay at 20 net. Awhile back I tried increasing carbs a little with some fruit/yogurt and it was a bust. Cravings were fierce, wanted more more more. Sometimes I go over 20 but as long as it's veggie carbs I'm ok...

Thanks gang... that helps tremendously! I did buy those little pee sticks so I know i am in ketosis... I'm just gonna relax a little and keep the numbers in that range. Your'e right, Debra, it doesn't have to be exactly perfect each day (oooooh, i am a perfectionist, yuck). As long as I am still losing, I know that my numbers must be okay.

Laura so proud of you on your take off of the keto life style...you are a real inspiration to many here of FS...seems many have answered your question so i will not add to it any more....but they are correct...

I follow NET carbs as well. It is total carbs minus fiber grams to equal the NET count.

I follow net carbs too, and wish that we could toggle the pie chart to adjust for that. If I can keep the net below 100 (about 60 carbs that I can digest plus the 40 for my gut bacteria buddies) I don't seem to be hungry, but can't say I am losing quickly either. Too sedentary last few weeks.
