Right this moment, I am struggling with the desire to bake a batch of chocolate chip cookies. I have a bunch of kids at the house, so they would disappear fairly quickly and I would be able to get my taste. I tried distracting myself in the kitchen and now have prepped all sorts of veggies for the week. I have a project I could work on in the bathroom, but I am not feeling too motivated. Perhaps the baking could be a reward for tackling that closet project. Maybe I won't feel so much like scarfing cookies after I get the bathroom closet shelves fixed and organized. If I whine about it long enough, maybe I will get right on to dinner without baking cookies. :)

I have decided to go work on my bathroom closet project. There is nothing to eat in there! :)

I bake all the time for my family. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to eat it. It's great practice NOT eating things you shouldn't. You're not a dog, you don't need a treat. You can still give the kids some cookies and say NO to yourself.

What a temptation. If I were in that situation, I might bake a standard set for the kids and another low carb or low calorie version for myself. Then I would not feel deprived. Something like that...

I would keep myself away from the temptation as well. Why put yourself in an unnecessarily difficult situation.

philmck--while part of me thinks I should be able to resist temptation, my experiment in self-control with xmas cookies was kind of a flop. While I am better able to avoid eating until I am stuffed, I do so love the taste of cookies! I am able to limit myself but not entirely deprive myself. geardoc--that seems like a good idea, but not really practical. Also, as I mentioned above, I am working towards the gaining the ability to be in the same house with a fresh batch of cookies. notelaine--your advice might be what I should probably follow today. Funny thing is that the kids don't even know I am contemplating making the cookies. They will not be disappointed if they don't appear. We have plenty of snacks around the house that I am able to resist. I suppose this is just another in a line of mental exercises that I have to go through for this lifestyle change to stick. :)

I love to cook and bake and it's hard to find good substitutes that taste as good as the original recipes. Last night I couldn't resist. I made a gingerbread cake with pears, ate one large piece, then threw the rest in the trash can, piled a bunch of trash on top, then took garbage bag out of the house! Sounds extreme, but it was the only way I could resist gobbling up that cake...

Distraction (housecleaning or any activity) is a great way to resist temptation. Our brain has an 8 seconds attention span. So we must control the channel we are listening to in our head. If we don't like what we are hearing, change the channel. Don't ya hate wasting perfectly good food? But you realized skinny does taste better than that amazing pear cake. My co-worker gave me slices of apples with cinnamon sprinkled all over it. OMGosh! It was so nummy! She went on to explain all the health/brain benefits too. It was divine. I bought apples and pears to slice and sprinkle w cinnamon to help curb those cookie/dessert cravings.

I have successfully avoided eating half a dozen chocolate chip cookies AND I finished a projected that much improves the shelves in my bathroom closet. I call that a success all around. Thank you all for helping me out. One of these days I hope to be strong enough to bake with eating too many of the goodies, but I will test that another day...
