Good morning, FS! 😀

Although I may receive a lot of skepticism on this post, it is on my heart to put this out there (I'm a sucker for doing things put on my heart). I've seen a lot of posts on my feed lately about depression, I guess that's why. (See updated Bio)

While the LCHF/keto lifestyle MAY not be for everyone, if you suffer from depression, anxiety, bipolor disorder, ADD/cognitive disorders, metabolic disorders/diabetes, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, or inflammation (just to name a few). I would HIGHLY recommend checking into LCHF/Keto. What have you got to lose?

A great research site is dietdoctor.com. Some good reads are The Art and Science of Low Carb Living, Grain Brain, & Wheat Belly (just to name a few).

Anyhoo... off to help a friend with different needs this morning. Hope you all have a lovely day! 😃

I know I feel better when I get the refined carbs out of my system. Less pain, less mental fog. Everyone is different, but it works for me. Plus I am down 52 pounds in 6 months!!

It's been a godsend for me. Always had seasonal depression. Started this in August. None this year. I was amazed! My family is scattered all over so being with them during the holidays was always tough if not a no go. I did just fine this year. Imagine that!!

More and more, research is indicating a link between sugar/simple carbs and mental and hormonal disorders or dysfunction. Many who are diagnosed with bipolar may really be experiencing the consequences of a high sugar/ high carbohydrate diet. Children are the victims of this too. LCHF may not be the answer for everyone. I've also read that some who've been LCHF for a long time develop depression (of course you can read anything on the internet), but there is truly no "need" for any kind of refined sugar in the diet whatsoever. Weeding out all sugar may alone cause a great reduction in carbs, and may reduce or eliminate some mental problems. (I'm not a doctor, that's just something I've read also, but it's a change I think more people should try with consideration of their mental fitness in mind and not just their physical appearance.)

My son suffers from Schizo Affective Bipolar Disorder and the KETO diet is GREAT for him. He has improved so much it is like he got his life back. That and taking Vitamin B6 - which helps regulate the brain chemicals some way. Also a great herb for anxiety/depression is Passion Flower. I had to take it regularly before I quit eating bread - the bread does it to me, so I will avoid wheat products altogether. There is a great site call Vitamins Because You Are Worth It - www.doctorvitaminstore.com/. All herbs and vitamins are buy one, get two free. You can bet, I am a constant customer.

Sorry ya'll, my son informs me it is B3, not B6 (Niacin)

Agreed, Shea. Biosynergy also has a great complex called neuroclear. That's awesome, rhontique! Congrats! Nyhardhat, that is wonderful! I couldn't agree more, DLynne! Thanks for sharing, everyone! 😁

Love Perlmutter's book, Grain Brain. It is what cot me thinking last year. Also Low Carbohydrate Living by Johnny Bowden is excellent.

Since I have been on LCHF, I have been able to cut my SSRI (antidepressant dose) dose in half! And that is something considering I have been on this dose for nearly 10 years! I also have SAD (a bad thing to have living in the Northeast) and have been totally fine so far. I agree that the brain thrives and functions better in a high ketone environment.

My life has improved in every possible metric since I got back on an LCHF lifestyle. I'm happier, healthier, and in the best shape of my adult life. Nothing speaks louder than results and people on an LCHF and maintain it have the best results, by far.

I'll have to look into this! I suffer from anxiety. Now that my kids are in school all day, I've gone back to college and it's a mental fight to get to class.

One added benefit that I've been able to experience is 'clear thought' and being able to take decisive action. I work in a technology field and at times we're analyzing a ton of data to sort through what's relevant and what isn't, in order to take the best corrective action. It can get pretty stressful at times, a lot rides on our ability to react quickly and make the right decision, but I truly believe that being in ketosis and not craving carbs or hunger cause me to work more efficiently.

I just wanted to share with you all: I have an aspergers/ADHD child. He was on some strong and pretty dangerous meds not long ago, and they had little effect. Well, I recently took him off the meds & cut out more of his sugar and put him on LCHF (although not as strict as mine). He came home yesterday with an AWESOME report card! All B's except for one C, and is the Terrific Kid for the 9 weeks. Going to eat breakfast & celebrate with my baby tomorrow! I'm so proud of him! 😊
