I need to get five-digit steps for the third day in a row. I also need and an exercise-bike ride for at least 20 minutes in addition to 5-digit steps, two days in a row. Will I do the bike in addition to enough steps, every day? Heck no, but I will get 15,000+ steps on a good day, 10,000 on an average day. I will also get 4,000+ on the occasional rest day instead of a laughable 3,000 or so…

…curious, what do your cheat days look like?

I ask because moderating a cheat day matters too…even just one cheat day can mess up progress, yes, even occasionally, if it is more frequently than a literal celebration…if you don’t mitigate it. There is a difference between, for example, some chicken tacos, rice, and beans, made at home, vs. the same thing plus alcohol and free chips at a restaurant. One is mitigated, and the other is going all out and may mess up an entire week, or an entire few weeks if your goal is low.

*I take that back. Some people do the latter weekly and get away with it because they can also tolerate fasting frequently or eating, say, 1,200 calories *plus* workouts and lots of steps frequently if they don’t fast.

instead of a cheat day try a refeed day where you try ND only bring your calories back to maintenance level gives you more calories ND a break from the diet without taking away any of your progress. twh scale might jump up but it will just need from extra water retention.

Hope it goes well with all the stepping. Cheating is an interesting topic. I am really weary of them since they can lead to a very long slide for me so I keep engaged and try to plan hard to get back to my normal asap. If I can do that they are not really an issue

Katsolo, it’s because I get so hungry even on low key days when it’s not social 😂even if it is healthy food. But I try to at least be active…I just can’t stand missing a meal or even eating a single meal without all macros.

I don't do a cheat "day" but I will do a cheat "meal." I eat lighter/healthier all day long knowing I am going out for dinner later and trying to mitigate the extra calories. From there I usually have plenty of room to work with especially if I allow myself to eat my maintenance number of calories that day.

I make sure I get 10,000 steps every day. I don't plan cheat days. They just happen. Other than on holidays and then I make everything as healthy as I can leaving out things I am not supposed to have much of like sugar. I don't drink alcohol.

I don’t drink alcohol either. I was just making an example of what some people may eat and drink on an excessive cheat day unless you like to fast or eat at a steep deficit other times. I have seen people do that. The other example is more reasonable if you have a strong appetite, so you are used to eating very regularly/rarely missing meals or even food groups. Eating more is not always a bad thing, if it’s more food and not more calories; it just means, you can’t drink calories or eat lots of sugar, or have big cheat days, too. I grew up with a bit of a focus on food, nothing compared to what people in culinary school would say about food though. Lol.
