I notice when I believe my weight is going up and I'm out of control (failing), I start to give up or sabotage myself. I make excuses for poor choices. The second I see things improve... literally that second, I make different choices. The only difference was my perception of how things were going. That makes much of this a head game; a head game and I'm the only player.

I think you’re doing great. I wish I had your will power. I stared 3 weeks ago and I’m down 12 lbs. but I’m a guy and I weigh a whooping 335. At 6”3. 😳

The one thing I had learned is to not make the same mistakes as before. So I usually would take the time to push harder

WindyD, thank you. I believe everyone and anyone can look at themselves with compassion and curiosity. Children do so but are simply unaware that they do. At some point as adults it can seem easier to go along with whatever most people say is true, or good, or right. But it feels like a bummer to not be curious about the world. I don't want to believe I have it all figured out. I'd rather keep looking for the rest of my life knowing full well that there is always more.

Your struggle is our struggle too. A positive outlook can produce amazing results. When failing, do what you can to re-focus on a successful future to alter behavior. Best wishes for you and the rest of us.

morganstuart, I am the queen of making the same mistakes. I find it challenging to think linearly. I am improving, though! I have been trying for the last 5 years to take a good, long, look at myself. I have noticed my patterns and have been thinking about where they came from and how I might use logic to avoid repeating past mistakes. I will get there, for sure!

Unity1234, I saw your post at the beginning of the day and I've been thinking about what to say all day. I wanted to post a thoughtful response that had meaning and was helpful. So I wanted to take a long time to think about it so I could say something that had some merit. In reference to the things that you have said I think the most helpful thing for you might be to identify positive habits that align with the goals that you have in mind that you could practice long-term that would bring you closer to your lifestyle goals. Write them down then break them into subgoals and pick one. Only one because it takes 3 weeks to learn a habit and submit it permanently into your lifestyle you would only want to pick one at a time. By picking a sub goal it allows you to add it to your life much more seamlessly and without as much effort because let's be honest we're busy people. I'm not sure if you'll like this idea but I think it might be helpful. 🤔 It's just a thought and if you don't find it helpful you of course welcome to dismiss the post. 😊

Leah_guffey, your response touched my heart. The root cause of my struggle is a fear of being vulnerable. I fear this because I seemed to have taught myself that connection with others will be painful. Believing that relationships with people are dangerous caused me to only allow connections that were superficial. I did not let anyone in. It is the good folks here, and your post, that encourage me the most. Your authenticity provides me with an opportunity to relate from the heart. Thank you, Leah. It is encouraging to know you exist. 💙

Unity1234 I too can share here better, because mostly it has been safer than the world at large (with only a few exceptions). Leah_guffey, thank you for reminding me to pick one thing to work on, to not over-whelm myself.

That's it exactly. I am having some success with journaling my thoughts when I'm tempted to or already have gone off the rails. Still a work in progress obviously. 😋
