I haven't been going to the gym, but I have been working hard at rehabbing an apartment. I raised my kids in this house and it's a bit nostalgic for me to be in there making it beautiful again. I was taking a break in the dining room and remembered a Thanksgiving in 1997 - the last year of my extended natal family. That year, both my folks died and my half-sister defected brom the family, taking her kids with her. Now, of course, my family has grown again with grandchildren. It's going to be time to sell that old house soon - times change. At 69, it's time for me to no longer be painting rentals and spending money on maintenance. At the moment, I'm taking pride in this lovely house (1785) that I renovated from a wreck to a gracious beauty. And in the meantime, I'm getting some good exercise sanding and painting the walls, and preparing to sell it next year.

Shirfleur— in my area one bedroom apartments run 1800-2000 and two bedrooms about 3500-3800 and maybe more. My 1200 sf condo would rent for 3500-3800 and sells for about $500,000 . I wouldn’t be able to afford an apartment. My house is paid for, fortunately, but I don’t know how anyone does it. I guess they don’t— thus our huge homeless problem.

Thank you Z!!!!!!! Ive owned rentals for decades but every time something like this happens i get stressed out. Not working has amplified that as im relying on the rental income now. Im a huge believer in fixing asap anything which generally seems to come with a higher price tag but for Pete’s sakes if someone is paying me a fair rent amount their basic amenities should work. I would love to own zero rentals but this particular house was my moms home and i promised her i would try and hold on to it so my daughter would inherit it one day. Sentimental. The other one is our old house and cap gains would be awful. Soooo stress away when things break for now anyway. The third one my daughter lives in so a bit easier and i sold the 4th to pay off our mortgage. TMI. But i think you completely understand. Sorry for the hijack of the post.

I have 2.63 acres of land in the country that had a well & septic tank already down that I paid $13,000 for - $500 down & $125 a month. No credit check. No interest for the first year. I bought my mobile home from a friend as a "must go" for $3,500. My husband & I remodeled it.

Kenna, I know, California is an expensive place to live, Houston not so much. My 2 bedroom apartment (1000 sq ft) costs me $1500 a month, and it was completely renovated before I moved in 18 months ago. And that's in the 4th largest city in the country.

Thanks y'all. My goal is only interim and I'm hovering above it, so not really cause for celebration yet. Thanksgiving was not a total blowout, but I did enjoy the festivities, modestly. Back on track and a month before Christmas. Let's see what we can make of it!
