Good Morning FS Warriors! So saw the Doc this morning...she was dressed as a female pirate..LOL She looked great. So she tells me again, I am a healthy obese woman, she was tickled with my weight loss, told me I needed to add more protein, I told her I had. Some of my numbers went down, Glucose from 100 to 92, AIC from 5.5 to 5.4, Total cholesterol went up from 156 to 158, Triglycerides were up from 58 to 68, HDL cholesterol was up from 44 to 53 (yay), LDL was down from 100 to 92 (yay), VLDL was up from 12 to 13. My creatinine level dropped from 0.95 to 0.89, which Doc said was likely due to better water intake. As usual she stated that the rest of my bloodwork was on par with a younger and fitter person. She eyeballed Cronometer and said she needed to check it out, her advice after looking at my intake, more protein, more fiber and because I don't eat grains, I'm probably going to have to supplement, so if any of you guys supplement fiber, give me a few pointers. With the colostomy I try to avoid bulk and gas producing things so I am looking for the nearly impossible low bulk, low fumes fiber supplement that may be out there. She did say that I needed to aim for the 2000 to 2500 calorie range on my eating days and my current supplements for vitamins and minerals were some of the same ones she uses. Protein was an issue for her also and she had to turn to a supplement, with a busy practice and three kids to chase around she had reached an abysmal total of 40g per day and had not noticed. So, I'm not the only one apparently! She is sending me to an orthopedist for the hip and knee though, we have to find out how bad the damage is and what...if anything can be done for it besides surgery. The ugly hematoma on my shin seems to be resolving itself. I have not rescheduled my appointment with the vein specialist which had to be cancelled due to covid in August, she said wait till after we see about the hip and knee, so the first step is x-rays, then we can progress to MRI's. UGH...I hear my savings account being sucked dry!!!! So that is all that is going on here...I weighed in at 255 there (fully dressed with shoes), but it's day 2 of this weeks fast, so I won't weigh in till Thursday morning, I did compare my scale to hers when I got home, mine adds 1/2 a pound...it's close enough! Ya'll have a great day!

Debra kudos to you for making so many positive steps toward a more healthy you! There are a few members on FS I have an unspoken bond to because we share similar objectives. I respect you for your dedication to health and nutrition. Our outlook on way of eating may be different but our end goal is the same….not a number on the scale, image in the mirror, looking back to some high school or weight in years gone by as if those mean anything. I am not going to elaborate on my health/mental/emotional challenges (which are not always related to my weight) on your journal because those should be on my journal. I don’t put them here because it has nothing to do with you.) All I can say is the best thing you can do for your physical health is to continue on your journey to lose weight. During that process you may or may not be doing the right type of exercises for any joint/arthritic/mobility challenges. Knowing what to do and what not to do is important and working with a physical therapist is the best approach.

Honeebuns, well spoken, and I was contemplating what I might learn in PT. I am favoring both the hip and the knee with the things I do right now. My bicycle has the pedals attached to the handles, so the handles move the pedals. I elevate my left leg with the bad knee and I use my right leg and my arms to move the pedals, the motion seems to sooth my hip and makes it less stiff. I'm limiting that to 15 minutes and not a very high speed...it does speed up my heart rate which is the purpose. My yoga I do all of the motions except for the ones that hurt, those I skip. You are correct, I know I need to move, but I don't know what moves to make or how much pain I should be gritting my teeth through. I saw that when hubby was in PT after his knee replacement. Some of it has to hurt to reach your goals, since I don't know how much or where I should be feeling pain, I try to avoid it all together. I don't know if it was you or another member who mentioned using Cronometer, but whoever it was, I'm glad for the mention because while I was hunting for apps, it caught my attention because I had seen where someone else here used it. I think it's going to make a difference in my over-all health. My WOE is a bit extreme, but I am learning more about it and the more I do and learn, the more it seems to fit my life and, there is no doubt it's working. I am a prime candidate for a gastric bypass, but I don't want to go to that extreme when I can eat in a manner that mimics the gastric bypass without actually going through the surgery. Thank you! I appreciate all the love and suppport I find here on FS

GiGi, you may have a milk intolerance, the whey protein powder I'm using is unflavored and has no additives, I don't care for the Isolate either, but the straight protein powder goes great in my coffee bombs. No flavors means no added sweeteners or artifical flavors and I can mix it into anything when I want or need the extra protein. LOL, this is TMI, but I have a colostomy bag and well....one of the perks (the only perk) is that I never have to locate a bathroom when I have to go 🤣🤣🤣. If I don't laugh at me..who will right? Dharam, I seem to have a considerable amount of stomach shrinkage due to the fasting, For the meals I eat, I'm fighting to get enough protein in a day, a ton of veggies would not fit in my stomach either. I do eat huge salads in the summer, but going into the fall and winter my interest in fresh leafy raw foods goes flat and I won't eat something I don't enjoy. I do eat plenty of the hot, steamed or sauteed veggies with my meals, but the amounts I consume in a day do not add up to the recommended 21 grams per day, I get about half that, so I want to supplment the remaining amount.

so, some of the fiber things I have run across are Chia Seeds, they have a hefty 4 grams per tablespoon, I can soak them overnight in my almond milk for my Coffee/fatbomb/protein smoothie I am having in the mornings and I could have them for a pudding at dinner. I like the taste of them, slightly sweet nutty flavor, goes well with coffee. I found a video with a recipe for how to make your own powdered green drink and the ingredients are starting to arrive, much less expensive than AG1, which is about 100 bucks a month. I'm getting about 3 months worth for 70 bucks and the ingredients have decent amounts of soluble and insoluble fiber in them, so that may make up the rest. I will do powdered green drinks, but I really really don't want to take a pill and psyllium husks, gas me badly and the thing I hate the MOST about my colostomy bag is the racket it makes with gas and there is no way to control or silence it! It's quite embarrassing. That is the main reason I quit carbonated beverages in 2010, not for health reasons, but because of the gas they create.

Yes I have been use Cronometer for almost a year. The only whey protein/powder/shake/bar I use is an unflavored powder from Ascent. About $44 for a 2lb bag. 30 servings at 25 grams protein. I typically use a half scoop a day so lasts me 2 months. Sometimes a full scoop depending on other foods eaten that day. I mix it in other things I am eating or drinking.

Debra, I think you may be right about the milk/lactose intolerance. I ran out of the whey this morning. I'm going to the health food store today to get some plant based. I found a good one on Amazon with no additives, pure pea powder. I'll get enough today to last the few days of shipping. Thank you! ❤️
