Believe it or not, I found this technique to cook eggs for the first time, and I’ve been cooking for decades. Why didn’t I ever hear of basted eggs? Oh my God, my life is not the same anymore I’m in heaven.

So I did this by accident then I googled it . Basted eggs. Yum . Then I started to make it in am . The first time I tried this, I put a little bit of butter in a nonstick pan, and I sautéed tomato, jalapeño, pepper, diced and deseeded, and peeled and diced zucchini I cooked all three on low heat in a little bit of butter I spiced it up, once it was cooked, all I did was crack four eggs on top of the mixture, covered it with a lid and steamed it. I made sure that the insides were fully cooked. I didn’t want runny eggs it came out, so darn amazing.

If you don’t want any veggies, take a nonstick pan, put a small amount of butter and melted on low heat, cracked two eggs on top, and then put water just enough to surround the eggs and cover with a lid. And wait for the top to turn, then you decipher whether you want Runny yolks or not and enjoy on toast with any toppings of your choice. If I tell you it’s amazing trust me it is enjoy.

As a kid we always had basted eggs. I remember when ordering breakfast half the time the server didn't know what I was talking about.

Fritz, in all the years, I’ve gone to so many restaurants for breakfast. No one has ever given that as an option. I don’t know how I’ve missed this for so long I think I’m addicted.

That’s funny. I didn’t realize there was a name for this. I “fry” my eggs with a lid on the pan so that the top cooks slightly because I don’t like egg snot.

Hi Kat , it’s different because you need to put water around them after the butter melts .

No butter here. A teaspoon of water keeps my eggs from sticking but I don’t measure.

Hot pan. Same principle as hot pan/cold oil. It gets trapped between the egg and the pan pan and keeps it from sticking. I use stainless steel, but it also works on non-stick.

I use butter but rarely add water. I cover the pan once the white part is down and the steam usually works without the need for water. I remember as a kid, in the 60's my dad would order eggs, basted when we would go out for breakfast.

When you use a combination of butter plus the water , it tastes like a fried /pouched egg . The consistency changes. That’s why I found the flavor unique.

You should do the egg both styles and then do a taste test.

That's a really fun bit of cooking knowledge I had also never heard a bastard eggs it's really cool to learn something new who know I've been eating eggs for 38 years and never knew something so basic.

Leah , you are funny or that’s a typo, but maybe we should change it to bastard eggs that’s a good idea.
