After a pretty good day yesterday (Monday) - just over 1,600 calories, drank 3 bottles of water, walked 4 miles, and did PT exercises - I woke up at 1am and thought I’d cut off ONE BITE of one of those Chocolate Chip Muffins. I don’t need to tell you the outcome of that, do I? After that, I was faced with a dilemma- do I put the 402 calories on yesterday’s food log and start with a fresh slate today? Or do I record it for today, and play catch-up all day? Technically it WAS after midnight, so I decided to do the honest thing, even though it was harder. So now, I’ll be making trade offs today: a slice of Dave’s Killer Bread toasted with Butter (285 calories) instead of Loaded Oatmeal (330); instead of making Chinese Casserole (350+ calories), I’ll have a Lean Cuisine that is only 250. Going to try hard to keep it under 1,700 calories today, but it won’t be easy having already eaten 1/4 of them and I don’t even get UP for 3-1/2 more hours! I’m my own worst enemy!

Oh, also “only” had six 12-oz cans of Diet Coke yesterday. I had let myself climb up to drinking 8-10 of them a day! Now, I write down the time I open a can to keep track of how many I’m drinking. Ok, gotta get UP in 3-1/2 hours to get a shower and get my grandson off to school before I leave for PT at 7:15am. It will be a different therapist today. I hope she is nice and doesn’t hurt me too badly. Goodnight (for the third time!)

I sometimes wake up hungry and never know what to do.

when i wake up hungry and can't sleep, i eat a bowl of regular cheerios with fruit and skim milk. For some reason it works to help me decompress and then i snooze on. I think if you identify some type of reasonable food or small meal like that that makes you feel better, you can keep it on hand for those nighttime 'emergencies". :)

Morticia, I never actually wake up hungry. When I had my gastric bypass a couple decades ago, they cut my vagus nerve (which lets you know you’re hungry). I haven’t actually BEEN HUNGRY since then. Eating is 50% emotionally driven and 50% pleasure-seeking for me. Been up 2 hours “in the middle of” my night. Had my usual planned King’s Hawaiian Roll with Butter (140 calories), but then my daughter brought up some crème brûlée and I had a serving. That will be my biggest indulgences for the next couple days. She made a double batch, and gave me five (I only asked for two).

seems it might also help if your daughter listens to you and stops bringing you food that you are trying to limit (my husband does the same thing and it's frustrating - as though he's sabotaging my efforts although he sees it as "loving")

Not really my daughter’s fault, SeekingSanity. She has to use my stovetop and InstantPot to make the creme brulee and I ASK her if I can have one or two as “payment” for me cleaning up the kitchen afterward. My fault totally.
