Here's an article that suggests that it raises blood glucose levels and blocks fat burning.

This is my favorite journal of the day!! I spent years, possibly decades, trying to satisfy my doctor(s) demands that I include oatmeal in my diet even though I made it clear that I HATE cereal and find it totally disgusting. About as appealing to me as eating a wet cardboard box!! Used kitty liter. I never ate cereal growing up. As an adult 2 doctors felt I have celiac disease due to my lifelong serious gut problems but thought it was never out of control because I didn't eat a of gluten like most people. I'm not convinced I have celiac disease but I did discover that unlike the bull they believed and fed me that 100% oat bran with no other ingredients did actually spike my blood sugar and cause me to be ravenous an hour later. They insisted oats would cause satiety and fullness and blood sugar stabilization for hours. WRONG!!! They could not blame it on milk, nuts, fruits, etc. because I at times I ate the crap with water only. No other carbs. Most of the other items listed on this article's list of offenders I either don't like or seldom eat. I would like to cram this article down my doctors throats but of course their egos won't allow them to admit they are wrong. There is no one size-fits-all diet for everyone. I am 100% sure of that.

Wow, Morticia, I guess you're not a fan of oatmeal! Me neither. I like the way it tastes with butter, nuts, fruit and maple syrup, but that's basically eating cookies for breakfast. Sadly I dutifully ate it, thinking it was good for me, during all those years that got me to 140 lbs overweight. Not good for me then- or now!

Oatmeal is palatable only in cookies and granola. Never could stand it.

Always wanted to, but could never like it, agree it's good in granola :)

What are the qualifications of the folks who publish on this website? Could not find anything listed. Agree that the more refined the oats the higher the glucose level.

It's data gathered by an app. The advisors and founders are listed in the links at the bottom of the page. Mark Hyman, David Perlmutter, Rajan Chattergee, Terry Wahls are some I recall off the top of my head. The Functional Medicine crowd. But who really needs a reason to avoid oatmeal? 🤢😅

I don’t eat oatmeal because of that. I could probably eat a small serving, but not really worth the huge insulin spike for me.

Prob would be ok as a pre-WO snack if it wasn’t a HUGE bowl.

If you don't like oatmeal, don't eat it. But the notion that plain old oatmeal (particularly steel cut) raises blood sugar is just nonsense. Stick with science. See https://diabetesstrong.com/oatmeal-diabetes/ https://www.healthline.com/health/diabetes/oatmeal Now if you use instant oatmeal loaded up with maple syrup or sugar or raisins -- that could be a problem. But steel cut oats with some nuts or fresh fruit or even -- the way I like it -- with a TBSP of low sugar fruit spread -- is just fine. And there is actual data that shows that eating 1 1/2 cups of oatmeal per day can help lower cholesterol. See https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/high-blood-cholesterol/in-depth/cholesterol/art-20045192 You don't have to like oatmeal -- I didn't eat it for years, in spite of my mother's insistence that I should. It's only very recently that I took it up. Now I'm loving having something really filling to eat that's truly guilt-free.

All carbohydrates raise blood glucose levels and block fat burning. Carbohydrates are geared for food storage: occuring naturally in late summer/autumn, they are perfectly timed for fat storage before winter. Eating carbs triggers ghrelin and insulin, 2 fat storage hormones. :D

Oh, one more thing: 2hk76pz9hp -- I used to get really hungry really fast in the old days when I was trying to convince myself to eat instant oatmeal. It's too small a portion and it's well, instant -- so it doesn't deliver the same nutrition as long-cooking steel cut. So if you like the taste and texture, try making steel cut.

I like oatmeal cooked in coconut milk with fresh strawberries and a little sweetener. Yum!

I like oatmeal BUT if I eat it with a little milk it impacts my blood sugar so badly I get the shakes. It is off the menu for me!

I can't eat any kind of cereal even old fashioned oatmeal without sugar for breakfast unless I want to have a blood sugar spike followed by a dramatic drop. The result is heart palpitations, sweating, and weakness that doesn't go away until I eat to bring my glucose level back up. Then I feel weak and ill for hours afterward. Therefore cereal doesn't even sound good to me. Pancakes and other refined carbs to the same.

Rhontique - I used to get migraines after waffles or pancakes with maple syrup. It took me years to make the association. I just didn't realize then, that food could have such a powerful affect. Once I made the connection I wondered how I could have missed it.
