Well, after three days of no Oxycodone I had to break down and have one this morning. Yesterday was a hard day, too, but I managed to get through it taking the maximum daily allowable dose of Tylenol. Been hurting all night. Took 1 Tylenol at 2:30am and a 2nd one at 3:30 (when the first did nothing). Was going to try just half of a pain pill, but couldn’t get it to break in half, so took a whole one. Don’t know why the pain is so intense (on Day #10 post op). No signs of infection. Yesterday, I had to use some Voltaren on the right side of my knee (away from the scar), and that did help a little. After I keep this ice pack on for an hour, I’m going to try applying that again today. Only walked one mile yesterday, and did PT exercises twice - so I didn’t overdo it.

My theory on any surgery is that it's a trauma to your body, and the body does not like it one bit! It'll take some time to heal, and you'll have your ups and downs. I do hope you'll talk to your doctor if that level of pain continues or if it increases. I know you say you're taking it easy, but they may want you to take it easier. Don't set yourself back getting activity if you really need a little more rest

Thank you, writingwyo. Yes, if this pain continues, I definitely will talk to the doctor about it. For now, after one pain pill, the pain is manageable. I really am taking it VERY easy. I spend most of my day iced and elevated, getting plenty of rest, not standing for any real length of time. All just part of the healing process, I guess.

Take it easy on yourself. I hurt my back and took time to recuperate. You had a whole surgery. Please rest and take it slow. Eat well, sleep lots.

Ask your doc specifically about cycling the pain meds. They each work differently and there is an art to it. My mother’s hospital had a pain management counselor and it worked very well.

About a week and a half after my knee replacement I pulled a muscle in the leg that had been operated on. It hurt like nothing I'd felt before! It certainly hurt more than my actual surgery. For me it was about doing too much too fast. I was able to get into my PT who worked it out, but man... I was down for the count for a few days. Now I know for the next one this October! I'll tell you what my PT told me: take care of yourself and let your body tell you what it needs. Maybe slow down whatever you're doing and let your body take a little break, then ease back into things. Just my opinion and personal situation! Hope you feel better soon.

Definitely sounds like too much too soon. Also, pain slows down healing, so you might want to take that pain med more regularly for a while.
