I’m struggling. I am battling some potentially catastrophic health problems. It’s been very stressful. I’m an emotional eater. So, I am eating nonstop. I’m trying to do better and eat more nutritious things when I lose control and binge eat. Could use your positive thoughts and prayers.

Take yourself on a picnic with a meal that you like and that won’t make you feel too guilty. A nice park, an open field, under a tree, even in your parked car over a scenic spot. Enjoy the surroundings and your meal. Then relax and savor your meal and take a walk. Get away from the pantry give it and yourself a break.

Be encouraged! Knowing your mental and emotional triggers is powerful. A change of mindset and reaction to the stressors is so important. Start with one day at a time until it becomes force of habit. You can do it and you are not alone!

Try marking a calendar for every day writing your mood/feelings down to you could use smiley faces or sad faces for the day then write one thing positive for that day even if you have a sad face, try to find one positive thing and keep looking for the positive and keep coming back here. We will all encourage you and send you positive thoughts, inspiration, and pick you up when you fall down💐🙏 this is a journey. We have to go one day at a time and keep it as consistent as we can and pretty soon it’ll be life as easy as breathing.💜

Sending prayers and just a bit of advice. Prep some veggies and nutritional snacks in ziplock bags. Measure and weigh your food. You'll be surprised! Plan your meals and log everything. Make small goals and when you achieve them reward yourself with a non food item. Can you exercise ? Move if you can. Anything to start will help. 🙏🙏

60s Mom, I am also an emotional eater and would overeat when things get stressful. I used to prepare healthy snacks for all the times I would want to munch on something, but I was still overeating. I’m dealing with it right now by drawing very firm boundaries around when I can put food in my mouth. There are three meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), which are usually preplanned in the morning or even the night before, and they get the entirety of my allowed calories. So I know everything else—any impulsive snack—is extra and will put me above my limit. The only thing I’ll allow myself is water and tea between meals, and occasionally any fresh berries leftover from breakfast. If this means I have to make one cup of tea after another (decaf after the first one), so be it. When I feel stress, I try to avoid the kitchen, go meditate outside, walk, even scroll the media on the phone or listen to something. I hope I’m not making this sound easy, it is really, really hard. An appetite suppressing medication finally helped to make this possible, and I am not sure if I’ll have the self-control when I get off the meds. I’ll find out soon!

there's an amazing workbook that helps address emotional eating called the Glow Approach by Dr Lyn Shroyer!! I've gone thru it 2x! We will be going on Vaca next week so I'm going to read thru it again to help with eating triggers.

Will power won't create long term weight loss. Remove bad foods from the pantry so that when the urge hits you only have healthy alternatives. Yes, you can still gain weight eating too many carrots and apples, but it won't happen as fast as potato chips and chocolate. When you have fewer and smaller setbacks, I suspect that some of your reasons for emotional eating will diminish. Talk to friends and family about your emotional triggers.

First and most importantly, I am sending prayers your way for healing! Secondly, I don’t know if this would help but you can consider it a tipping point. When I got diagnosed with cancer, I felt like I could sink into my unhealthy coping skills or fight back. I chose to fight back. It’s all I had left. I chose healthy eating habits, chose the gym, and chose a deeper relationship with Christ. It was hard, but it was worth it. I am still fighting but most importantly, I’m winning. I am now several months cancer free, have lost a good amount of weight, and I am choosing life. For me, 3 surgeries and 2 rounds of internal radiation were hard. But, I have no doubt that by God’s grace, I am walking away so much better than I went in. Most importantly, have grace for yourself and lean into your community for strength.

So sorry to hear. I know what you are going thru. Best advice I can give is to give your self time. Eat some comfort food for a day or two and avoid watching or reading the news. Do what makes you feel better. You will get to where you want to be. It is not a race. Take care of yourself.

I’m so sorry to hear of your health status. It’s not easy staying healthy and making good food choices when faced with diminished health. Try and stay positive. Your attitude towards your diagnosis can affect your ability heal and get through these difficult times. And my I suggest taking a walk in nature when thing feel like it too much to bare. Nature is a wonderful place to go and be quiet with yourself and away from the frig. That what I’ve done in the past, and now I love to garden. Take care, I’ll keep you in my prayers. 🌈

Make sure you have many of easy wholefood snacks to grab with no prep. I think nuts are great, as they are satsifying but at least their not just high calorie but very nutricious.. so go for pistachios, walnuts, cashews all highly tasty and healthy. When comes to snacks I try to get dips and things that are healthy like hummus, zatzithky and sour cream, these have rich wholesome nutrients, but rather have crackers I have chopped veg at the ready like carrot sticks, celery sticks or asparagus.. these can add to the wholesomeness rather than add in processed foods with high sugar and high preservatives which add to obesity by tricking your hunger triggers. What the junk food market depends on. Cheeses and cold cut meats are great too. Why wouldn't you keep a nice plate of hams, roast chicken, salami, frankfurters etc.. these are all great protein foods, which will help you feel full require more energy to burn and stop you have short term sugar spikes and dips which lead to binge eating and lack of control. Other great snack whole foods, are olives, stuffed bell peppers/ or chilli peppers, pickles of beetroot sauerkraut, all go immensely well with cheese mixes like goats cheese and camebert. IF you really rethink your larder, you can ensure that what you have in there works in your favour not against you. Eventually your palette will reset away from the sugary stuff and processed chips, and you just won't like it any more. I had my first can of soda in about 3 yrs a month ago, and it made me feel like hurling, the sugar was just to much it was disgusting. And I used to a fan of an odd can of coke every once in a while, not even often. Still the difference was incredible. We have been trained like monkeys to eat trash. Do not do it any more. The good news is that all these whole foods really work for you, giving you a broader range of nutrients, make your body work harder to burn so more energy expended, and will radiate health through your skin and energy levels. Just keep the junk foods out of the cupboards. Plus overeating whole foods is incredibly difficult, because they take longer to process through and give us more saiety, junk is designed to block your hunger signals and keep you not stop eating, you have everything to gain by ridding yourself of that rubbish. Best of luck.

@60s Mom, I Can’t begin to imagine what you’re going through or what you’re feeling. I do know that many of us understand the problem that emotional eating can be. I’m certainly very familiar with it. However, more than saying what I think you should be eating or not, what I want to encourage you to do is to find someone who you can talk to. Don’t try to go through this alone. I don’t know where you are geographically but I’m in Chicago if you feel comfortable enough to reach out to me, please know that you have someone here who is available to talk with and can relate to what you’re feeling. My number is seven seven three, seven four four, 6090. Don’t hesitate to shoot me a text to get my attention if I don’t answer at first call. Please keep it handy for whatever you might need to talk about. I am sending hugs and I’m also lifting you in prayer so that you’re able to find comfort and feel reassured that you are not alone. Be encouraged and be blessed.

Sending positive vibes your way! If you know what you're facing health condition-wise, research it so you'll know what you need to ask the doctor. If you haven't been diagnosed as of yet, try not to envision the worst. You are stronger than you think! We're here to lean on when you need it.

emotional eating is a hard thing to overcome. your body craves stuff that your mind knows is wrong. try to think of your body as your dog and your mind is the boss of it. that being said, I did have two large helpings of a dessert yesterday. good luck to you.
