So, I went back to my journals and found one from March 2015 where I did a one day experiment and I wanted to share it with the folks here who may or may not realize how much in actual pounds a human can intake in a day's time.

After a kick-a** start to my day with a good weigh-in, I pondered the idea of a post I made on a Buddy's journal. I recommended weighing EVERYTHING that goes into your body in a days time just to get an idea of how much your daily intake weighs in total so you can have a better understanding of why your weight fluctuates so much when you step on the scale daily. I have heard it mentioned before, but I have never actually done it..so I did it today. I put my water bottle on my digital food scale and tared it to 0 then I filled it up. Recorded the 26.6 ounces on a spread sheet and kept making my entries for everything that went inside my body today. What an eye opener. My total intake is 220 ounces, that translates to roughly 13.75 pounds! Depending on how frequently you eliminate wastes you could have many pounds on you at any given time that are completely temporary. I really did not realize that the amount would be so large so those of you who keep stepping on the scale every morning keep this in mind and don't let it discourage you, the scale does not define your success or failure, it is just a recording tool that used too frequently can derail your motivation and send you to the refrigerator. Spot on Debra. I was going to get into that about the macro grams vs oz consumed but figured why bother… lol

Ex: 1 peeled banana weighs ~118g. However, if you add up the protein/carb/fat macro grams of that one 118g banana the macro content is only 28.6g. The rest of it is other stuff like water content, fiber, vitamins, etc.

Honeybuns, you can’t rely on grams of macronutrients to tell you the weight of food you eat. A 3 oz of salmon is 85 grams total weight, but 10 grams of fat and 20 grams of protein (0 carbs). So that’s only 30 grams of actual macronutrients.

and that is very true Andrew I have 149 lb of fat I need to remove and I have about 40 lb of muscle that I need to put on for a decent body recomposition I got a lot of work ahead of me

Not addicted to the scale. My goals are better health and I am achieving that.

oh honey don't feel that way seriously I have been doing the same thing even though I know better but the last two months I have been looking at the weight of my food and not paying attention to my grams of protein so I'm eating way under the protein that I need to eat because I assume that 126 G of chicken equals 126 g of protein but but that's not right so that's what I've been doing even though I know better because I never did it in the past sometimes I'm just crazy headed but because we're not in the habit of weighing everything we need to be able to wrap our head around how much what we eat weighs and what a difference it's going to make on the scale when you step on it every day or two or three times a day I've been a scale addict and it's so disheartening to see it go up and you don't really think about what's inside of you at the time so some folks will look at that upswing on the scale go man I suck or I'm doing everything right why isn't it moving then they'll get discouraged and go chow down on a whole pizza that is why I'm trying to raise awareness

I portion everything I eat by grams on my scale, as I food prep for my week... sometimes I will add up the numbers of a meal, and it will be over 250 grams and I am going wowsers, that's a lot of food! but it looks like a pittance. I have to keep track of my weight, because I am in a Bariatric surgery program, so have to have statistics for them.

I hate the fact that you can't put punctuation in voice typing. LOL it's just one long drawn out sentence. But anyway, I'm off work now and can sit at a keyboard for a minute. @Honeebuns, don't feel badly about asking for clarification because it's a lot of numbers and they are confusing. This one post from 8 years ago started me on my trek to wean myself off of using the scale as the sole component of my success or failure. When the scale goes up, our confidence and self esteem seem to take a blow, when the scale does not move, we perceive it as a failure. When it drops today and doubles up tomorrow, we scream WTF???? As Super always says....it's all about 💩. LOL and he is right. We need to take pictures and measurements of our body so we can SEE the changes that are happening no matter what the scale says. That keeps our momentum going, keeps us excited and motivated to keep going. The scale is a harsh mistress!

Debra that is right weight naturally bobbles from day to day and I have always been ok with seeing it go up and down. A large reason for my journey was to get the weight off of my arthritic ankles and knees. I have regular bathroom habits so my fluctuations are generally due to eating foods inflammatory to my body and I feel it in my joints before I see it on the scale. I only weigh about every week or so just to make sure I am not gaining or losing much either way. P.s. I am a half a banana, about a cup, around 4 oz person never consider food in grams. I recently started tracking on another app just to see where I could tweak things to better align with more specific nutritional goals. I wish FS did that for us. I pulled the "grams" off that site and should have thought about it before converting to lbs of food. 😁 All the best to you!!

Yeah, those knees, hips and ankles don't like us much when we are carrying around too much weight. Back when I did that experiment, I was jumping on the scale several times a day and struggling with motivation. It was really eye opening to watch the numbers climb throughout the day and I really really had no idea that my total intake was that heavy. We don't even have a water intake counter here in FS unless you just enter it into your food diary, and that does not really calculate anything as far as weight...you do get to see the sodium content climb from entering it. So, once upon a time I needed to see what kind of head games my scale could play with me and remove it from the position of being worshipped and move it to the position of being a tool and an untrustworthy tool at that. It helped me back then, I figured it could help someone now.

LOLOLOL, I ABSOLUTELY hate typing on my phone, so when I am away from home, I voice type in my apps.....and yes, instead of voice typing texts, I make a phone call. I can't call here and make entries though! Also, while I'm at work, I have my hands busy doing other things WHILE I am voice typing. It's actually pretty good at getting past my heavy southern accent and typing what I say instead of some crazy things that I have seen in the typo/can you unnderstan the words that are coming out of ma mouf issues. Spelling there done deliberately! LOL
