Good Morning FS Warriors! I wanted to share one thing I have changed in my diet this time around. For the first 20 years of my life, I was a big coca-cola drinker and I had sweet tea, sweet coffee, drank orange juice daily. Then my Mom AND my grand-pa were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I immediately switched to artificial sweeteners in all things as I was told it was hereditary and having two diabetics in my maternal line increased my chances of having it myself. For the last 38 years I have used saccharin, splenda, equal, stevia and had what-ever they put in sugar-free drinks and snacks, I quit fruit juice completely. Even back in 2014-2016 when I lost over 100 lbs here on FS, I kept up my zero cal sweetners, I never lost the craving for sweets. This time, the first week of June, I stopped using any sweetner what-so-ever. It took about 2 weeks for me to get used to things unsweetened, like tea and coffee. Now, I'm not craving anything sweet. Whole fruit that I eat tastes like ambrosia where before it never seemed sweet enough. My hubby got some eclairs at the grocery Saturday when we went shopping, he ate them last night....me, nothing. I looked at them and I did not have any urge to join him in his sugar feast. That is amazing! I have some sugar free peanut butter in the pantry, the week before the 7 day fast I decided I wanted a bite of peanut butter so I grabbed a spoon and dipped some. I licked it and it was so overpoweringly sweet that I scraped it off into the garbage can and threw away the jar. It tasted terrible! I have watched videos and read studies where they say/show that artificial sweeteners have a huge impact on our taste buds because they are up to 200% sweeter than sugar, my response was....nah, they don't know what they are talking about....but they do! It's real and I am shocked at how different everything tastes to me now that my palate has been cleared of the fake sugar stuff. Those of you who are constantly battling the sugar monster and are using artificial sweeteners, to create sug-a-like snacks, you are feeding the sugar monster still. When you quit feeding it, it tucks it's tail and leaves!

Debra, Yes!!!! also, watch the documentary "What the health?" It talks about the those sweetners do to your brain... I can't remember what they do, but the doc explains it, everything you said is correct about making you want more....

Zen, I guess we have to go back to that old adage that everyone is different and when it comes to sugar addiction, folks have different triggers. I'm lucky, mine does not seem to be triggered by fruit, but for me, bread is my most deadly enemy. I love it so, but it de-rails me every time and from experience I know that it will send me to the refrigerator/pantry seeking, hunting something and I will try everything to fill the void that is demanding to be filled. It's like I'm a black hole pulling everything in. It's very difficult to explain that ugly spiral in anything but galactic terms. 🤔

Exactly, Deb! Everyone is different. ...and black hole is the perfect comparison. I was definitely in the galactic zone last night! 😂

People who haven't been affected that way CAN'T imagine it. It's beyond their grasp. My black holes are potato chips, cookies, milk chocolate, and everything in the doughnut family. I can't see myself eating them even in measured amounts without lighting a fire in my brain.

@Lady... SO TRUE! My husband sees it in action, and can't totally wrap his head around it though he does try. I guess that's why most people that have never had a drug or alcohol addiction look down on others that do so badly. It's just incomprehensible to them.

I guess I am blessed to share my life with a man who is very intimate with addiction and tries to support me as best he can. He knows triggers, he knows stinkin' thinkin' and all of the signs of relapse and downward spirals and he tries in this gentle but no bullshit way to help me see when I am headed down the relapse path. During my years of stress, he wisely gave no voice to recriminations and simply accepted and supported me until I made it past my rock bottom and reached for a hand up, that he gladly extended!

Debra I am trying to kick the sugar addiction to but the so called artificial sweeteners are worse than regular sugar especially with the other ingredients in them and diet Coke and soda a nutritionist once told me even though they claim to be good for you that actually it's not it's just as bad as drinking regular soda I never could get used to the taste of diet Coke and soda it's why I drink my one a day mt dew and then straight water. I tried drinking non sweet tea but it has the same after taste to me and I would rather drink water now. There's so much hidden ingredients e even in food and drinks that's supposed to be healthy for you and they are not. I'm in a group on FB that deals with lawsuit against companies and you wouldn't believe that the companies that are getting sued for labeling their products as sugar/carb free and without gluten or made with real ingredients and the truth comes out and they are not any more healthier than the normal one.

You hit the nail on the head, saranchrisriley! It's clear you are finding some great info in that FB group 🙂

I know what you mean Sara, I fell out laughing one day when I saw a big bag of jelly-beans that proudly proclaimed "Gluten-Free". The food industry's nasty habit of hiding things under misleading names, and the USDA and the FDA's habit of allowing it are reasons for lawsuits. We can't trust them and that is sad! I know you are trying to kick your soda habit and it's not an easy task, but you are doing so great! Keep going! You are Worth it!!!

Thank you Debra and zenus I've been doing research on the carnivore diet and I am thinking of trying to incorporate it into my life more than anything because I love meat products anyway so that part would work better for me. I'm going to find more information on it before I make a decision but it's looking good only thing is I will miss my fruit. Other than that I'd be ok since I eat alot of chicken and hamburger anyway and sausage. It's worth me looking into except now they are growing chicken in a lab and I don't want that crap either. These food companies are getting by with too much from the FDA and government and it's partly to blame for the reason why so many people nowadays are overweight growing up my grandma had a garden and canned food and killed her own chicken and turkeys and we were not as big as some of the young kids I see these days and except for we are outside alot when Young and most kids don't go outside to play anymore.

It's tough finding a Way Of Eating (WOE) that you can sustain Sara. I love meat no doubt about that, but I have done carnivore before and I did great on it, you don't have to be a strict carnivore for it to benefit you and like everything else, you can incorporate it slowly. I'm doing a version of light keto, because I do better with variety and color on my plate. It will slow down my progress yes, but I can sustain it better in the long run I believe. WOE's are like dresses, try them on and see if they fit 😁

@Sara... Deb is 💯 percent correct. For me personally, carnivore is like shooting for the moon. If I have just a little something off plan (but still on keto plan), I still land amongst the stars! 😉

Sara there is a 30 day carnivore challenge posted on the FS website right now. That would be a great way to try carnivore, get off the pop, and get some great weight loss results!

For me, I get 'carb creep'. I make a little keto treat, or have some (highly glycemic) protein powder or a little fruit and these things trigger cravings. Pretty soon I'm not on keto anymore and I'm gaining weight. I've taken to heart what Dr Boz says, ' If you're not producing ketones, then you're not on a ketogenic diet.' That works for me. Now if you're fasting, that's a ketogenic diet, and you may be in and out of ketosis. Anyway ketones=fat loss. You can also generate ketones with exercise. I just do better if I keep my carbs low low. For me that means no fruit, but Stevia, so far doesn't kick me out of ketosis or cause carb cravings. To each her own!
