The online charts say I'm a hard gainer. According to my height, 7" wrists and 8.5" ankles. But I guess I'm Popeye since my forearms and calves and already bigger than my maximum genetic potential. The odd thing about my "big" forearms is that my grip strength is weak.

Interesting info time to prove the chart wrong right? It says I'm a hard gainer for upper and lower body as well 🤷‍♂️ and says It will take another 4.6 years to hit my peak and have potential for 35 lbs more lean mass. Its just averages though not necessarily what's actually going to happen but I'd be happy with 35 lb of muscle hahah

Holy cow! 35lbs of muscle is insane. It says I'm maxed out at like 195lbs at 6%. How much would 35lbs be for you?

Can you provide a link for this chart? I thought wrist measurements were to determine bone size. For instance, I’m 5’5” and my wrist is 5 3/4”, which makes me small boned. So how does this relate to gaining?

This was interesting, I looked up genetic potential calculator, I could have been pretty big, should have started when I was younger, Lol. My max weight at 10% body fat was listed as 225 lbs. I’m 5’11” my wrists are 7.5” and my ankles are 10.5”, making me a large frame. Well, I guess at this point I’ll take what I can get! Interesting post! 👍🏻💪🏻

i did recently learn muscle growth potential is partially genetic, calf muscles are especially genetic, and some people just genetically have defined calves. It's super interesting. are you concerned about grip strength? they make these little hand grip trainers, my colleague that climbs, has one.

@Kenny, your ankles are huge compared to mine. Do you have big calves? I thought I was blessed with calves but maybe it's because my ankles are small. My calves are 15.75", almost twice my ankle size. And they are very vascular with 2mm fat on skin caliper. My forearms are more than twice my wrists. 7" wrist and 14.5" forearms. They are also very vascular. My calves and forearms are genetic and have been this way since my teens.

@kaylinrenee, yes my grip strength is weak. It makes my pull days hard since my grip gives out before my back and traps. I'm trying to work on it lately with added forearm exercises.

@the unhealthydaddy, kaylinrenee, Yes calves are definitely genetic, not to say you can’t build them up with some work, but genetics definitely makes it easier for some people. My calves are close to 17” and are vascular as well, I have a lot of room to grow in my forearms though, they are only 12.5”. Your forearms sound huge! Farmers walks, dead hangs helped me with grip strength. I also just watched a video telling you to squeeze the barbell or dumbbell as you do curls, that this will help with grip strength. I only started working out about 3 1/2 yrs ago and missed a solid year when they closed down the gyms for Covid, so I’ll never hit those genetic potentials but I’ll take the way I look and feel now over 3 1/2 years ago!! Resistance training has definitely been a life changer for me.
