ok, I stumbled. It happens sometimes. My husband didn't EAT the Franklin Nut Cake last night, and he made the mistake of asking me how long he has to keep it hidden - which alerted me to the fact that it was still in the house! This happened about four hours ago, and I held out this long. But, finally, I convinced him to give me back that half a slice. He tried to reason with me, telling me, "You don't really want to eat it." But, I really, REALLY did want to eat it, so he yielded. I had actually started checking his bedroom drawers, looking for it.

315 calories added to my already "complete" day, for a total of 1,658. My "logic" was: if I'm the one setting the "rules," I can be the one to change them. It was a kind of arbitrary ambition to eat just between 1,350 and 1,450 average daily calories for the week. If I stick to the food I have journaled for the rest of the week and only have melons (200g) and one break of a KitKat bar each day, my daily total would still be in range at 1,385. That's a BIG if, though.

I know these things are really trivial in the grand scope of things. But, they seem important to me.

Even though I do pray for my friends and family, I must admit that the lion's share of my prayer life is devoted to what I am going to eat or not eat, whether I have a daily bowel movement or not, and whether the scale goes up or down. Pitiful.

My husband had to go and take my granddaughter home because she got out of school two hours later than usual due to a Drama Club meeting. In the future, my daughter will take her home on the late days. BUT, when he left, he left "his" slice of Franklin Nut Cake on the counter. Thankfully, I'm satisfied with the half slice I had (and I don't want to further sabotage my calorie count). I guess that "just" having a total of one slice of cake over a 29-hour period is quite an accomplishment for me. Thankfully, there aren't too many things that are irresistible for me. Now, if they ever bring a Marie Calendar's to Richmond, I'm in BIG trouble because of their German Chocolate Pie! (They don't have it in their frozen pies that are available here, PTL!)

OK, past my bedtime. Thanks to all you who take the time to read my exhaustive posts. They even make ME tired sometimes! Night all!

Instead of giving leftover cake to your husband, why not pitch it in the trash or garbage disposal? It's probably not healthy for anyone to eat. This way you deal with the temptation and defeat it early on. The best way, of course, is to not bring it in the house at all.

Humorous that you gave the whole cake away and a piece came back to haunt you right before Halloween. Might have to rename it Franklinstein Nut cake. Eating only half is an accomplishment since you really love it and don't often have it. I hope you enjoyed the half piece of your special cake. As far as that store bought pie, I've freed myself from some of these temptations by reading the ingredients list online or before buying them. Hope you have a great weekend. You've got this! :)

JustBananas, I think Debbie did exactly the right thing. Why should she throw perfectly good food in the trash? Instead, she used moderation and fit it into her daily food plan, thereby, enjoying it's deliciousness in an intelligent, healthy way.

I think you did a good job of practicing portion control and the fact that you could resist your husband's piece of cake is impressive!
