So tomorrow begins my weaning off of the Ideal Protein diet. I knew it was not the healthiest when I began, but it was so easy and I lost so much weight in the beginning (20 pounds in 2.5 months). But then the weight loss stalled. And then I got blood work done at my doctor's office. And it appears that I am one of those people whose body has a bad reaction to sudden low carbs. And now I have to add carbs and calories back to my diet so that I can ironically lower my bad cholesterol - which became elevated from the low carb diet of all things. At least my thinning hair will hopefully grow back and my energy will return. But I am so afraid the weight will return with it. My goal will be to eat healthy carbs and still keep the calories around the 1200 mark. I'll need support now more then ever as I go out on my own and create my own diet based on my doctor's recommendations and what I already know about nutrition. Wish me luck!

fad diets are never good in the long run! also, rapid weight loss isn't healthy. aim for a slow but steady weight loss regimen.

Aim for food with no more than 4 ingredients on the list. If sugar or wheat is 1st or second, drop them. The more natural your diet is, the better. Don't worry, you will figure it out. :)

If you add low glycerin carbs back in slowly, you should be fine. You might see a small gain at first. It will be water. If you only eat 1200 a day. You know it's not fat. Your body needs time to adjust.

It is a trial and error type of thing for most people. I am sure you will figure out what works best for your body and to keep your numbers good at your Doc's office. Good Luck!!

I too started out with a high protein diet for several weeks and then began adding carbs back in. If you can avoid wheat it will help I think. I eat quite a bit of dairy in the form of yogurt (light & fit). If I drink milk I use 1% (not skim). There is something in the fat that helps with weight loss. I use Borden's fat free cheese for omelets. (I eat two scrambled eggs for breakfast daily with either chopped peppers or onions. Occasionally I switch that for oatmeal.) I eat 2-3 fruits per day (berries are the lowest calorie, but I also have bananas, oranges, apples or canned Libby's skinny fruit. I eat mostly frozen veggies like Green Giant. I rarely use any bread but if I do it's wheat free (like rye, pumpernickel, oatmeal etc) I also like to munch on fresh red pepper (can be counted as fruit or veggie). I either dip it in my yogurt or I have a Sabra Hummus (which comes in little single containers in the supermarket). I have nuts (mixed, almonds or cashews) for my evening snack or sometimes pumpkin or sunflower seeds. I hope some of these suggestions will give you some ideas for yourself. The other thing I do is not let myself get crazy if my totals add up a little over my calorie quota as long as it's 'healthy' food. So far I have lost 94 lbs since last March so I must have done something right. During the summer I exercised in the pool for 1 hr a day, but since winter I really get very little exercise. Since I have another 90 lbs to go, I will have to start adding exercise soon. Good luck!!
