I went to talk to my doctor today.

I told him that I have dieted for 5 weeks, pretty close to 100% and no cheat days. I told him I was eating about 1600 calories and working out with a trainer 3x a week. I told him I have mild sleep apnea and the doctor told me to lose weight to deal with it. I told him that I would think, if SOMETHING was working, at LEAST my clothes would fit a little better. I told him my thyroid was checked within the past 6 months when they discovered my estrogen and progesterone were low. I told him I'm frustrated because in 5 weeks I didn't lose a thing. In 5 weeks, I didn't feel any better in my clothes. In 5 weeks, I didn't feel any healthier.

You know what he said? "Eat less, work out more, you will notice a change in 3-4 months."

MONTHS??? MONTHS??? How can I hang on for 3-4 MONTHS to notice ANY change??? I am SOOO discouraged!!!

Just want to encourage you to keep at it. What is working for me is to accurately log everything that I put into my mouth into my food diary. Only by doing that can I be sure of what I'm eating, and times that I slack off from it, don't measure my portions, or estimate things I simply don't do as well...because I end up eating more than I'm accounting for and even lying to myself about what I eat. I know it is frustrating but don't give up...just figure out what it is you need to do to succeed.

I once had a very similar conversation with a Doctor. She basically told me that I MUST be lying. Hello! If I was lying I wouldn't be seeing a doctor. I was so crushed when I left that office because I had been working SO FREAKING hard! It was probably another year before I found out that I had endometriosis. Sitting in the specialist office-he says " I bet you have a hard time with your weight". I almost cried. Keep plugging away, work hard and listen to your body. Don't make yourself paranoid but maybe there is a medical issue here.

Weigh and measure your food. Get exact on measuring, no estimating. IMHO only try for 250 to 500 cal deficit a day if you are working out hard with a trainer. You need to let your body heal from hard work. It is usually better to change one variable at a time to see what works instead of going extreme on everything and expecting instant results.

You will notice a change on the outside before 3-4 months. You won't see the changes happening inside your body, which happens first. "It takes 4 weeks for You to to see your body changing. It takes 8 weeks for your friends and family. It takes 12 weeks for the rest of the world." Keep working at it. Try to stay below 1500. Eat more proteins. Once muscle is formed it uses more calories and can lower the weight in the end.

some medications make a real obstacal when dieting. and i am thinking a new doctor might be in order.

keep going at it. Don't focus on the scale. Could be hormonal, medication or an extended plateau. Maybe you need to change up your exercise routine and, if possible, amp up your cardio. More importantly, do not give up. Rome was not built in a day. Keep the resolve. Have you analysed your daily intake to see what you are eating e.g. is most of your meals heavy on carbs and sugar? Don't despair.

You've gotten a lot of advice here, so all I'll add is that you have lost 2 pounds! So there is already a difference and that adds up over time, just like putting on weight adds up over time. Hang in there!
