Setting new health goals. 💓💪🏻👩🏻‍⚕️🏃🏻‍♀️👟📈

Next Lipid panel will be drawn in 5 weeks (July 5th), and my doctor and I have worked out some numbers and a strategy.

Current LDL: 105
Goal: 70
Current HDL: 43
Goal: 60
Current Total: 168
Goal: 150

(Note: I am not taking any medications.)

Attack Plan is to continue eating Vegan/Whole foods 85% non-processed, and to increase exercise to 1+ hour/day walking, cardio 5x/wk for at least 30 minutes, and resistance bands 4x/wk (2 days bicep-back, 2 days tricep-chest).

Goals are my motivation. Love a good goal with a deadline! 💖📆

@Kim: This experiment is just with changing from a vegetarian diet to a vegan/non-processed diet, along with upping exercise. I've lowered my levels without losing a pound. Check out my post from June 1st -- I listed all my before/after levels, including Blood Pressure, A1C, Lipids, etc. If I lost 10 more pounds I doubt it would affect my levels at this point, since I'm already at a BMI of 21.5

@Morticia -- Thanks! I think my doctor's just as excited as I am about my recent labs and my self-project 😄

@ Liv: when I was in my 20’s my HDL was 82. It’s possible, though maybe not in just 5 weeks. Still, gotta aim high! 😁. As for the trigs, I believe that will come down with the LDL as a side bonus. I don’t eat anything with trigs, so there’s nothing I can do except exercise. 🧐

What kinds of fat are you eating? I always thought eating healthy fats like those in olive oil, avocado & salmon helped raise your HDL.

@Sherry: I’m using EVOO, canola and sesame oil, and eating the occasional avocado for fats. Also eating 30-45 grams of fiber each day. Doc thinks I can get the biggest boost in HDL from exercising harder and more frequently. Because I don’t consume any animal fat, and less than 6 grams of saturated fat (from the oils), my LDL and triglycerides dropped big time.

Bananas, I saw where you lowered your LDL, etc. I was curious. I did read exercise helps raise HDL. Mine has always been over 50 but I think mostly from healthy fats.

@Sherry: Statins raise HDL, as do healthy fats, fiber and exercise. Oftentimes people with good LDL and HDL readings eat poorly (i.e. consume high amounts of saturated fats) because they rely on Statins to do the heavy lifting. All I know is that after 7 weeks as Vegan/Whole foods, I dropped my LDL from 130 to 105, my Trigs from 124 to 109, and my Total from 206 to 168. Normally doctors don't want to run another Lipid Panel for at least 3 months, so I can only assume that my numbers are still sifting around. When I test again in 5 weeks, I'll share those results and see if the exercise does make a big difference (I won't be changing my diet).
