boy that looks cold 

It was in the high 20s so not too cold by our standards. Hiking in a sweater with and underlayer and boots with a scarf and gloves was very comfortable. When it gets below 10 I might have to put on an actual coat. My dog has a few coats and snow shoes. He has webbed toes so if he gets snow stuck up between them it's uncomfortable. He's sporting his blaze orange coat because it's deer hunting season but you can't see it in this picture.  

Stunning. Have you ever tucked lambs wool between your dogs pads? Just a tiny puff between each toe then seal the bottom of the paw with a mole skin pad. Thank for sharing the pictures. Gives me memories of a few high mountain lakes. 

Spark, I haven't but I'm sure that would work well with a different dog. Judging by how he likes to play with yarn my guess is he would try to eat it. He does really with his dog boots. I have made alpaca fiber thrummed mittens for my Grandma and those were like stuffing your hand into a fluffy warm cloud.

The calorie is actually the energy required to support the body systems and ... and maintain the body water temperature - DEFINED - A CALORIE is the energy needed to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water through 1 °C . So yes you would use more stored calories to keep the body water warm in colder weather - but it is not a huge amount - maybe 100 or 120 calories depending on how cold you got - and you have to be careful about getting too cold - since body water freezes. (smile)

Jergens, the last couple days Ive spent at least 3 hours outside and it's been in the 20f-30f range. I think I burned more than a few hundred extra 😂 I overshot my goal and some of my pants have gone saggy. I'm just going to log everything but eat what I'm hungry for (still keeping processed foods and sweet treats to a minimum) Maybe the holiday extras will help me stabilize.

Another thought. Being in the cold also changes yellow fat to brown fat which does not carry the same health risks.
