What are your thoughts on fat free dairy products in relation to weight loss?

I’ve been eating fat free cottage cheese and yogurt for years and also prefer fat free milk since 2% and full cream make me feel rather nauseous.

I’ve hit a bit of a plateau on the scale and trying to figure out what I can change up in my diet. Every day I eat two eggs, fresh veggies, a fruit or two and then either chicken or fish every second day, alternating by adding the cottage cheese or yogurt to a meal. Over weekends I usually have some boerewors and a tjoppie when we braai with a glass of wine or two.

At the moment I’m limiting my daily intake to 1200 calories to get closer to my goal weight. I workout every morning between 60 and 120 minutes, but after that I’m at my desk all day.

I’ve been told to avoid everything that is fat free or low fat because the moment they reduce fat, they add sugar to compensate for the same great taste. Last month I started using full cream milk and Double cream plain yoghurt. I bought Footys flavours in cases where I crave taste in my yoghurt and I just pour it in my yoghurt, most people make juice with it. I don’t drink much cold drinks I prefer water, tea and coffee. I’ve changed all my oils to either butter, olive oil or coconut oil. I reduced my carbs but increased healthy fat and protein. I switched completely from sugar to Xylitol which I seldom use unless necessary and all these changes work fine for me. I’ve been in +- 3 weeks and I’ve lost 8kgs so far. I had a setback where I drank excessive alcohol on the 6th, 7th and 8th of August as we went to celebrate my sister’s birthday weekend away. HUGE SETBACK. I do exercise like you, my problem is that I have a fractured ankle so I can’t exercise any more than I am now, due to pain. I’m in bed over 16hours a day as I work from home on my laptop in bed. Hope this long essay gives you light on changes to implicate but do seek other opinions, it always helps.

Thanks for your input @nsibanda775 ☺️ I LOVE the taste of the fat free plain products but if it’s doing more harm than good with the added sugars I’ll have to wean myself off it 😅 Geez, good luck with that ankle! Injured my shoulder a few weeks ago and had to stop working out for two weeks — it was so frustrating so can’t even image how you’re feeling. Good luck with the healing process 🌻
