Mer, that is funny! 😄 I just lost my reply to you, so I'll start over. Yes, papitas or papas, are skillet fried potatoes. I especially like them sliced, as opposed to cubed, but I will eat them either way. I grew up with them being sliced and crispy. 😋 The beans, frijoles de la olla, literally means, beans from the pot. I could eat these 2 food items everyday and tire of either one. I am missing a tortilla though. That is different that your girls don't care for fries. It's actually a good thing, I think. 😊 

Mer, I'm not big on spicy foods, but I will have some type of chile from time to time, but always try to have some sour cream on the side just in case it's too hot. It's funny you should ask, because Joe had a steak and red chile this morning with his beans and potatoes. He always says that if he wrote a book about us, it would be titled, " Sour Cream and Salsa'. 😄 

Mermee, my husband says that about me: he says "you burned your tongue as a child, that's why you don't have refined tastes like I do" lol 

Yes! Blunt and funny, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We certainly don't tiptoe around one another.

Goodness gracious I grew up with a version of this as well. Any leftover vegetables my mom always sliced and fried up in pork fat, the white slabs that’s actually called salt pork and you fry it out and the grease gets in the pan and then in goes the sliced veggies and we called it Ash! Soooooo delicious!! Leftover potatoes were always the base of this. Does anyone know anything about the salt pork I’m referring to? It’s so gross and so delicious at the same time! 😆😆😆 

And yes I have to say, the first thing I noticed was the table linens. Absolutely beautiful. Now Becky, I want to see the drawer or closet full of these linens, not just the cupboards full of your beautiful dishes ha ha! 😂😂 Call me nosy wifey😜

Wifey, once in a great while, we would use salt pork, but mostly just bacon fat (same thing almost) added to our beans. This time, we had cooked some bacon and kept it in frig for add ons. Trying to not use bacon fat as often. 😫 As for the tablecloth, it's new. I bought it in Santa Fe. It was a bit pricey, but I thought it was too pretty to pass up. At least it was less expensive than a piece of jewelry. 😄

Thank you Bear. 🐻 I thought is would be pretty for the patriotic holidays, but I am enjoying now. 😊 The bird is the salt from my s&p set. The birds sit on a leaf. I've had bird s&p sets for probably the last 35 - 40 years. I think I bought my first set from Lillian Vernon. I left them for our daughter, when we moved from Southern California. At some point one broke, but she able to find a replacement! It's funny how our groen kids hang on to certain things. A while back our youngest son asked if I still have his Winnie the Pooh book. 😄 He's going to be 35!
