Day 4 of the fat fast and I am still not in deep ketosis. This tells me that there most definately is something wrong that is preventing me from losing any weight. This is not an easy thing to stick to but I've been doing really well with it. I lost about 4 pounds but I was up 2 from having cocktails (low carb) and some salty foods over the weekend. So I'm down a net 2 pounds. I'll be interested to see if I am down any more tomorrow morning.

Your caloric intake is quite low. When you condition your body to lose on very low calories, it becomes accustomed to living on that. So any time you give yourself a treat, your weight is going to shoot up. Cocktails and sodium make everyone gain, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Make sure you are getting enough water. Keep trying different things till you find what works. Good luck!

Thanks. I did the fat fast for 4 days due to extreme metabolic resistance. I know that low calorie dieting is not good for you and generally just do straight carb counting. The fat fast is in the Atkins book as a last ditch effort for those who don't lose no matter how well they stick to the Atkins plan. I've been trying different things for 2 years now. Something has gone wrong in my body and I've not been able to figure out what it is. My naturopath has been helpful but I am losing patience. I'm tired of not being happy with my body or appearance.

I was having a lot of trouble getting into ketosis myself. I was not able to do the fat fast, but did the meat fast instead. It worked wonders for me.

Watch any kind of nuts! They make me stall or gain! Just lean meats, fish and low carb veggies until induction was all I could do to lose though I'm sure you could add low carb Atkins foods and low carb breads and pastas in very minimal quantities. I see macadamia nuts - I love them as I lived in Hawaii but even now on maintenance any quantity of any type of nuts seem to stall or sometimes even cause a gain. You too will learn in time which foods will stall you. Journal them. Weigh yourself officially in the mornings only too when you first get up and with the same amount of clothes on each time too. Then you'll get an accurate barometer of really where your weight really is too. Don't obsess too much get in that exercise but I would ditch the nuts until I was on maintenance and I would recommend that for everyone unless they're doing serious working out and using them just before a workout! :)
