On a more personal level... I was diagnosed with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) when I was 16. I am now 24 I don't take birth control anymore to regulate my period I haven't had one since May I know it's very unhealthy but I hate being on the pill. Sooo I took the pledge to lose weight to jump start everything and 20lbs lighter... NOTHING. Obesity is one of the issues with this condition also infertility. And there are numerous things that can go wrong without a normal cycle. So it's essential to get my weight under control. I want to be healthy, I want to start a family and for most, I want to live. This is something I think about on a regular basis. So question... Would you get back on the pill if you were in this situation?

I also have PCOS and I do take the pill not for the regulation but for the hormones which tend to go wonky. I have heard that Metformin is a good choice to help you as well but I stopped taking it. I am not however trying to have children.

A friend of mine has PCOS and my heart goes out to every woman that suffers from this. My friend started growing facial hair, losing her hair on her head, weight gain, diabetes, infertility. She wanted to have children but couldn't at all and I could see the hurt in her eyes. Nami_Mommy I pray to the Lord and ask him to heal you and to bless you with a baby. Good luck!

@ Tanya (pretty name btw lol) birth control just has me so sick, the smell of food has me gagging, my mood swings are out of this world and I get my period but it will last 30 days lol. And my doctors switch it up every time. My body just doesn't like the pill. So I am starting to do research on natural herbs that will regulate things. I've tried a few but nothing has worked for me yet. Maybe I will start back on the pill but not take it every day maybe every few weeks just to start my cycle. I will try Metformin Thanx

@DPalmieri When I was 16 I didn't think it was a big deal. I mean it was awesome that I didn't have my cycle every month. Now that I'm older and really understand The damage i can cause I'm trying to avoid a the wrong turns. Doctors say I can't have kids but I have told them that's up to God he has the last say so. It may take a little longer but I know it will happen. Thank you so much for your support. And tell your friend she's not alone in this battle and it always helps to have a friend like you. Thanx for sharing. PCOS isn't in the light and isn't talked about much. Thank you again 😄

Sorry, I hit enter too soon. I was saying perhaps you might want to seek out a physician who specializes in wholistic care. Perhaps they can help you find a more natural way to deal with your condition. I understand you wanted to give your body a break from medication. I also agree that God has the last say so. I will also keep you in prayer. I am adding you to my pray list as we speak. Be encouraged, God led you to seek out a healthy lifestyle and He will not leave you as go through this journey. He understands and wants to fulfill the desires of your heart, you just have to believe and accept however He chooses to fulfill your desires. Take care, and God bless you.

I have pcos too, I refuse to ever go back on the pill. I went on at 17, went off at 21, didn't have a cycle for almost a year after going off. Made trying to start a family impossible. I saw an endocrinologist, they had me start metformin because I had developed insulin resistance and gained a ton of weight because of it all, was 115-120 in highschool, by 20/21 I was 180, then hit 198 shortly after 22. With the metformin and eating healthier, paired with my already very active lifestyle, I managed to lose nearly 50lb, was down to 155. My body started working right and was finally able to conceive. I'm 26 now and my daughter is almost 9 months old. I was told that it would be hard, possible near impossible to have kids and here I am. It took a ton of hard work to lose that weight, and now I'm working on losing some that I gained back. But I personally only ever had issues with the pill, tried. 3 different ones and it was awful.

I was over weight and diagnosed with PCOS. I was told that I would not get pregnant without assistance from a fertility specialist. I lost 60 lbs and 24 days before my 40th birthday I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl!!! Stay off the pill and loss the weight, your body will respond. Be encouraged!!!

Like you I hated taking the pill. That also comes with risk. I talked to my doctor and we decided that i would have a period once every three months. I was given a prescription for a pill that made my period come on, sorry cant remember the name of it. I would suggest talking to your gyno about that.

I would assume that you are more than likely allergic to something in the pill. I am on Yaz which is a very controversial pill. I would seek out a naturopath as well, But definently look into the Metformin. and remember that there are lots of women going through the same thing and we are always here for eachother.
