Well, my favorite NFL team won this weekend. It's been a long time since they went this far into the playoffs. My brother introduced me to pro football back in the 60's. That is when I recall the Buffalo Bills winning their first championship. All the years I was in the army I followed them wherever I was in the world. I would call my brothers and that would often be the first part of our conversation, it would start out as "How about those Bills, huh?" In the bad years we would laugh and the good years we would be excited. There were the 4 straight Superbowl years and each year we would hope “this would be the one” - but it wasn’t. We did take pride in knowing, though, at least they went to 4 straight Superbowls, that in itself was an achievement. Then. most recently we had a long bad stretch. My brother really wanted to see the Bills win just one Superbowl before he died. He used to tell me this all the time, and of course we would laugh. After the past two years as they made it to the playoffs and lost in the first round, I would say - well, looks like it won't be this year. This past March 2020 he passed away of cancer. It is almost funny but as the football season started the first thing that came to mind was, wouldn't it be ironic if this is the year the Bills went all the way and won the Superbowl? Well, I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself, but I can’t help think this as they made it into the second round. It’s been 30 years since they started their epic 4 consecutive Superbowl runs. I guess we will see what happens this next weekend when they either move to the AFC Championship of go home.
