This maybe a stupid question but does anyone have experience or tips about protein intake with respect to 1g per body weight vs macros and % of calorie intake?
I recently saw a video where the person was saying to build muscle your protein intake should be 40% of your calorie intake. I know this app monitors the macro percentage but up to now I’ve been focused on the amount of grams of protein intake per lbs of body weight. For example I aim to achieve a min of 170-180 grams of protein per day.

Just curious if I’m screwing this up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not a stupid question but I have no clue. I don’t pay attention to it, to be honest. And I was zero help. Sorry. 😂

Mike, the approach I have seen most often is to set a protein goal first, (like a gram per pound of lean or total mass, or similar) and then calculate other macros from that using desired macro ratios. It’s a good place to start but it pays to keep good records and pay attention to your body’s response, then customize the ratios. For instance, I cannot go low fat without being hungry all the time, but adequate carbs help me with energy. Finding your personal ratios helps you be more comfortable while maintaining or in a deficit, and more effectively eat a surplus if trying to pack on lean mass with the least fat gain. Calories still count.
