My concern of only eating 1,200 RDI led me to try upping my caloric intake the past week. I went to about 1,500 calories, although a few times it went up to 1,700 (no more cheese and Jimmy Dean sausage... and no mashed potatoes.) The end result was no weight change. I am still at 204 lbs for the 3rd week in a row. I started a simple spread sheet with my calories eaten and a memo column of things I thought were poor food choices (high carb items and beef/ chicken). An analysis of that information shows that the weeks I basically stayed at 1,200 calories, or less,were the weeks I lost weight. I think a new game plan will be to lose a bit of weight and then go maintenance for a week, or two, so my body doesn't think I am starving. There are foods I really miss, but I know they are poor choices, so I must bite the bullet, get real, and decide which is more important... indulging my pleasures, or weight loss. My VA doctor suggests that weight loss helps control GERD. Getting off chemical medications is definately an incentive for me. For those who happen to read my journal entries, I discovered Ole Wellness tortillas... both spinach herb and tomato.. both only contain 50 calories per tortilla. I have given up all bread and eat a lot of burritos made with the above. I do an egg salad burrito,or bean and onion burrito for lunch, breakfast burrito with 70 cal of hash browns and 50 calories of liquid egg. All of those choices are really low calorie and filling. Chicken and beef (even 4 oz) ultimately contain too many calories that push me above 1,200 RDI, so I must carefully watch AND WEIGH everything I eat. This voyage is trial and error... Eventually I'll get it right. I'm tenacious.
