Home Sweet Home!

As wonderful as it is to be able to travel & although we had some great times with my Mom, extended family & friends, it really feels good to be home & have no travel plans for awhile. The trip was a mix of emotions with the many fun times among the sad realization of my Mom's deterioration. Physically she's holding her own, but her memory is worse so we're working on ways to help stay as independent as possible. It particularly hit me when my aunt told me my Mom has repeatedly asked her how many children my aunt has. And even though I know that is what altzheimers does, I'm struggling to accept it & missing my Mom as I knew her.

And, I'm disappointed that I let my inner child win out on my last night there & during the day of my flight back. She was determined to comfort herself with sugar, & I wasn't able to take charge and find another way to deal with my emotions. But I'm back on track now, accept that I'm a work in progress trying to change a long-standing sugar habit and ready to continue the journey one day at a time.
