Today is a painful day. My calf's were on fire yesterday and worst after the work out. with the holiday weekend I will be taking a break from the gym. I will give my calf's some serious heat and massage over the next few days. Been working on them a couple days this week.

I was diagnosed a couple decades ago to have fibromyalgia, for me it was food and chemical related. I would have terribly painful spots all over my body. Some here also have this issue. These for me are actual knots in the muscles. Which can get worked out with massage, stretching (which I do a lot of) and heat. Naturally finding the foods that trigger these responses is key.

Over they years I have gradually forgotten my lessons about food and ate my way back to pain and brain fog. My calf's it seems were badly effected as I not only have tiny little knots all over them but they have shortened. Making any exercise activity down there difficult.

I have been eating carnivore for a couple weeks to help me clear my system and calm down my immune system. I have also been checking different foods to see which seem to effect me.

after a couple weeks testing the limited food types I have allowed, butter (reaction) bacon (reaction) pork (questionable) ground chuck (reaction) spices like onions, garlic (reaction) grassfeed beef (reaction) vingar instant reaction, I think my issue may be histamine sensitivity.


Histamine foods hits pretty much all the food groups with beef (non aged, non cured) being the least effected. My bloodwork allergy tests showed a wide range of foods which are all high in histamines.

Hopefully over the next few weeks I can settle things down now that I have a further direction to go. I got a DOA supplement to test and see if it helps with histamine foods. I took a single one the other day and had questionable success. Next test I will use the 2 dose test 30 minutes before. Some people have a reduced production of this and it is what keeps the normal histamines in the body from attacking. Complicated process, but I get the gist. So I will save the last test for the double dose 30 minutes before instead of the 15.

More then likely my best way of dealing with this is just to avoid the histamine foods and histamine liberating foods, and yes there is a list of things that block the production of DOA which protects the body.

My head is a bit foggy this morning. Hope this all makes sense.

Wow I hope your calves relax today and give you some relief. I read a lill about the histamine foods when researching about the avocados. So many things you’ll have to leave out. Maybe the sups will work well. When I was severely lactose intolerant, lactaid pills didn’t seem to help with milk but they did with cheese. My mom has fibromyalgia. I believe that is why she is so sensitive to so many foods. However so won’t give anything up. I’m glad you have seen the light and are doing everything in your power to improve your quality of life!

I totally understand taking some time off of the gym. I see how injuries really mess with peoples programs if they try to push themselves too hard. This is why, as soon as my hip started bothering me, I backed off the weight on the bar and was willing to stop any exercise that affected it until I felt I was 'healed'.

I have fibro and cfs. Nasty little syndromes the pair of them. If I stick to eating meat, fish and eggs - with a little cheese - I'm not as bad. Wishing you all the best.

Crash sorry your mother is suffering it is hard. allergies itself can do it too. I think the only thing that will help is to just avoid all histamines the best I can and let the body heal. I am learning as I go. Some days I am clearer headed and it helps.

Adef, I am only taking time from the gym not my home gym. and my bike, that aggravates my calf's. the regular stuff, the total gym and the heavier resistance is mostly upper body and those I will continue. Need to keep up!

thanks Minitata, yes it is, but I can be pain free when I don't have what irritates my condition. Once this all settled down, I will feel a lot better.

For your sore calves, have you tried knuckle massage? Fold your fingers, and press the knuckles into the sore muscles, moving toward your heart. This works for muscle cramps, too.

thanks gz9gig, no on the knuckles, the muscles effected are pretty deep all the way from my toes to my knee's. to get in there I have to use my fingers and when I find the small lumps I try to break them up with my thumb which is stronger. If I could afford a massage it would be better than what I can do, but at least my fingers can be available all the time.

Thanks Nikeit, I don't figure I can stop irritating them for long, just about everything bothers them. But it will work out in the end. getting rid of the problem food will be the best medicine for them long term

Thank you for the info. I never heard of histamine foods and how the body is affected. I truly hope you find relief soon with food and meds if necessary. Feel better!

thanks Elsie, there are a lot of things I never heard of too, which would have helped if I knew about this years ago. I posted in earlier journals other problems which can effect people. Fructons and Salicylates are little known too, I definitely have a problem with veggies. one day maybe more folks will know about these too instead of just the gluten issue
